Editor's Take

Here's the thing about Aarke - they've basically taken the most boring kitchen appliances and made them, well, actually desirable. And that's no small feat.

Founded in 2013 by industrial designers Carl Ljungh and Jonas Groth, this Swedish company has been on a mission to transform those mundane daily routines into something that feels a bit more special. Aarke is a Swedish design company that engineers premium kitchen essentials for a more sustainable lifestyle, with their core range including iconic sparkling water makers, water filter jugs and minimalist glassware.

But here's what really sets them apart - it's not just about making things pretty (though they definitely do that). At the heart of their approach is a deep understanding of human behaviour, observing how people navigate their daily lives and working to eliminate unnecessary dullness, aiming to bring meaning and beauty to mundane routines. So when you're making your morning coffee or carbonating water, it doesn't feel like just another chore.

Their flagship product, the Carbonator, has basically become the Tesla of sparkling water makers. Making sparkling water at home has never been this elegant, with its all-metal design making the Aarke sparkling water maker much slimmer and more refined than your average water carbonator. And honestly? When you see one sitting on someone's counter, you immediately know they care about design.

The sustainability angle isn't just marketing speak either. Sustainability is part of their DNA, with products and services that enable a more conscious lifestyle by choosing high-quality, durable materials and rejecting disposable plastic filters, water bottles, and other single-use items, encouraging a shift from careless consumerism to investing in longevity.

What's fascinating is how they've expanded beyond just carbonation. They've got water filter pitchers, electric kettles, coffee machines - basically reimagining every water-related appliance in your kitchen. With an obsession for detail and honest care for their products, they develop iconic minimalist designs that never go out of style, refining products until they cannot get any better with the goal of creating the perfect user experience.

Sure, you'll pay more than you would for a basic SodaStream. But when you're dealing with something you use daily, that extra investment in quality and design actually makes sense. Plus, Aarke products are created for life - their design is iconic, but more importantly, they are built to last, holding the responsibility of engineering durable, aesthetically pleasing products that support a sustainable lifestyle.
