Editor's Take
Here's the thing about Accessorize-it's basically been the go-to spot for that perfect finishing touch since 1984. And honestly? They've kind of mastered the art of making accessories feel less like an afterthought and more like the whole point.
The brand was born in Covent Garden after founder Peter Simon took a trip to Paris and discovered stores where you could actually pick up, touch, and try on fashion jewelry while browsing-a concept that was pretty revolutionary for early '80s London. Fast forward four decades, and they've turned that simple idea into a global presence spanning over 50 countries.
But what really sets Accessorize apart isn't just the sheer volume of sparkly things (though there are plenty). It's how they've positioned themselves as the accessories-make-the-outfit brand. You know that moment when an outfit feels almost right but needs something? That's their sweet spot. Since 1984 they've offered affordable accessories that can be stacked and styled, with everything from jewelry and hair accessories to bags and seasonal favorites. The stacking bit is key-they're not selling you one statement piece; they're selling you a whole vibe you can mix and match.
The product range is pretty extensive. We're talking bags (from beach totes to evening clutches), jewelry (both costume and slightly fancier pieces), hair accessories, scarves, hats, shoes, and even beachwear. They've also expanded into kids' accessories, which makes sense when you think about it-if mom's accessorizing, why shouldn't the little ones?
What's interesting is their ethical angle. As a founding member of the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) they've been at the forefront of driving improvements in working conditions, and in 1994, The Monsoon Accessorize Trust was founded to help disadvantaged women and children across Asia through education, healthcare and income generation projects. So there's actually some substance behind the style.
The shopping experience varies depending on where you catch them. In the UK alone, there are over 1,800 store locations, from standalone shops to airport kiosks to concessions in department stores. Their online presence is solid too, with worldwide shipping and a pretty straightforward e-commerce setup.
Price-wise, they sit in that accessible sweet spot-not fast-fashion cheap, but definitely not breaking the bank either. You can grab a cute hair clip for under £10 or invest in a leather bag that'll run you closer to £70. The variety means there's usually something for every budget, which probably explains why they've managed to stick around while so many high street brands have struggled.
The brand aesthetic leans boho-chic with global influences-think embroidered details, vibrant colors, and eclectic patterns mixed with more classic, wearable pieces. It's not trying to be cutting-edge fashion; it's trying to be that reliable place where you can find something fun that works with what you already own. And for a lot of people, that's exactly what they need.
