Editor's Take

Here's the thing about Aerosoles-they've been around since 1987, and they've basically built their entire reputation on one simple promise: shoes don't have to hurt. Sounds obvious, right? But if you've ever limped home after a day in "cute" shoes, you know that's kind of revolutionary.

The brand started with this whole stitch-and-turn technology thing (basically a construction method that makes shoes more flexible), and they've been doubling down on comfort tech ever since. We're talking Diamond Flex soles, Ortholite foam insoles, heel rest technology-all the stuff that sounds boring until you're on your feet for eight hours straight. And honestly? That's their sweet spot. They're not trying to be Manolo Blahnik. They're the shoes you actually wear to work, not the ones collecting dust in your closet.

What's interesting is how they've evolved. Used to be, Aerosoles had that reputation as "mom shoes"-comfortable but, you know, not exactly fashion-forward. But they've been working hard to shake that image. They brought in designers, updated their styles, and now you'll see them featured in places like Real Simple and Cosmopolitan talking about comfortable heels that don't look like orthopedic nightmares. The brand sells through multiple channels-their own website, wholesale partnerships with places like DSW and Macy's, international franchises, even licensing deals.

The company went through some changes recently. American Exchange Group acquired them, and they brought in Jimmy Gabriel as President and Chief Brand Officer in 2024-a guy with almost 50 years in the footwear industry. So they're clearly trying to level up. They've also closed most of their standalone retail stores and pivoted hard to e-commerce, which is pretty much the story of retail these days.

One thing that stands out: their customer base is incredibly loyal. Women who find Aerosoles tend to stick with them because, well, once you find shoes that don't destroy your feet, why would you switch? They've built this whole multi-generational following-not just the over-40 crowd anymore, but younger women who've figured out that Instagram-worthy shoes aren't worth the blisters.

The pricing sits in that accessible sweet spot-not cheap, but not luxury either. Most styles run between $70 and $150, which feels reasonable when you consider you'll actually wear them more than once. And they've gotten smart about their product range: flats, heels, boots, sandals, even wide widths. Basically, if you need a shoe for any occasion that won't leave you hobbling, they've probably got something.
