Editor's Take

Alo Yoga isn't just another activewear brand-it's basically become the unofficial uniform of LA wellness culture, and honestly? They've earned it. Founded in 2007 by Danny Harris and Marco DeGeorge, childhood friends who got into yoga for anxiety and back injury treatment, the name stands for "air, land, and ocean." But here's what's wild: the brand rose to prominence when celebrities who received free products such as Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, and Bella Hadid wore Alo in paparazzi photographs.

And that celebrity strategy? Pure genius. Frequently sported by celebrities such as Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner, 18-year-old Alo has risen as a formidable challenger to Lululemon in the world of chic-but-not-crunchy yogawear. Beyond household names, it has tapped into a vast network of influencers and fitness instructors to promote its sports bras, logo caps and $128 leggings.

What sets Alo apart isn't just the price point (though those $128 leggings definitely make a statement). The Los Angeles-based brand offers a huge variety of workout clothes, and everyday clothing that are comfortable, functional, and easy to mix and match with just about everything. The quality of its clothing is consistently top-notch, its sizing is inclusive, and its pieces hold up through all kinds of activities. Alo's signature fabrics are some of the most supportive and softest in the athleisure game.

But here's where it gets interesting-Alo has evolved way beyond just leggings. The company has expanded beyond athletic wear. A skincare brand, Alo Glow System, was launched in December 2020. At New York Fashion Week in September 2022, Alo introduced the Aspen Collection, a luxury line of ski wear. The company began selling sneakers in May 2023, now marketed as recovery sneakers. Its next luxury line, the Alo Atelier formalwear collection, was launched in October 2023.

Alo's headquarters in Beverly Hills feature yoga studios, gyms, and other amenities. As of October 2023, the company has more than 50 brick-and-mortar stores (which it calls "sanctuaries"), which feature yoga studios and cafés. These aren't just retail spaces-they're community hubs where you can grab a matcha latte, take a yoga class, and shop all in one spot.

The brand's commitment to the yoga lifestyle runs deep. Alo stands for Air, Land, Ocean. Behind everything they do is the intention to protect and respect our planet's resources with solar power and sweatshop-free, eco-aware production. It's this authentic connection to wellness culture that keeps them relevant in an increasingly crowded market.
