Editor's Take

So here's the thing about ALOHAS-they're basically doing what every fashion brand claims they want to do, except they actually mean it. Founded back in 2015 in Hawaii (yeah, Hawaii, not Barcelona-more on that in a sec), this Spanish shoe brand has figured out something most companies haven't: how to make trendy stuff without destroying the planet in the process.

The whole concept is pretty clever, actually. Instead of churning out thousands of pairs of shoes and hoping someone buys them, ALOHAS flips the script entirely. They launch new designs at 30% off and wait to see what people actually want before making anything. It's called on-demand production, and it means they're not sitting on warehouses full of unsold inventory that'll eventually end up in a landfill. You order, they make it, you get it in about six to eight weeks. Sure, you're waiting longer than Amazon Prime, but that's kind of the point.

And the shoes themselves? They're designed in Barcelona and handcrafted by local artisans in Spain and Portugal. We're talking real leather, quality construction, the kind of shoes that don't fall apart after three wears. Their sneakers have blown up on Instagram and TikTok-particularly those crochet lace ones that every fashion influencer seems to own now. But they've also got ballet flats, sandals, boots, even some ready-to-wear clothing. Prices hover around $100-$200, which isn't cheap, but makes sense when you consider they're not mass-produced in some factory halfway around the world.

Here's what's interesting: ALOHAS started as purely online, but they've been opening physical stores like crazy lately. Barcelona, Madrid, Milan, Amsterdam, London, Paris, and they just opened their first U.S. location in NYC's Nolita neighborhood in May 2025. The stores are gorgeous too-designed by this Valencia firm called Clap Studio, with this whole volcanic landscape vibe inspired by Hawaii. It's minimalist but warm, which somehow perfectly captures what the brand is about.

The founder, Alejandro Porras, apparently got the idea when he was in Hawaii and noticed locals going nuts over his Avarcas (those traditional Menorcan sandals). He thought, "What if I could make Spanish-style shoes cool for a global audience while also not contributing to fashion's massive waste problem?" And honestly? Mission accomplished. The brand registered over a million in turnover back in 2018 without investors, and they've only grown since then.
