What is the return window?
You have 24 hours from the time you first buy your ticket for a refund if you booked at least 2 days before departure. The 24-hour refund policy applies to all ticket types, but you have to cancel the trip to get a refund.
Do I need a receipt to return an item?
For refund requests, you need your ticket number or confirmation code. You'll need your contact information, mailing address and email address, your confirmation code or ticket number, and the flight number, date of travel, and your origin and destination.
Are there any items that are non-returnable?
AAdvantage award fees or copays are non-refundable. Additionally, on domestic (U.S.) itineraries, the only refundable tax is the Security Service Fee ($5.60 one way/ $11.20 round trip).
How will I receive my refund?
We'll process your refund back to the original credit card within 7 business days (it should appear on your statement in 1-2 billing cycles). American Airlines is committed to process refund requests for eligible tickets within 7 business days for credit card purchases and 20 business days for cash purchases.
