Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Aritzia-it's basically become the unofficial uniform of a certain type of woman, and you've probably noticed. Walk through any major city and you'll spot their Super Puff jackets from a mile away, those distinctive puffers that somehow manage to look expensive without the Moncler price tag. The Canadian brand has quietly built an empire on what they call "Everyday Luxury," which is kind of the perfect description when you think about it. Not quite fast fashion, not quite designer, but somewhere in that sweet spot where quality meets accessibility.

What's wild is how they've managed to blow up on TikTok without really trying that hard. Like, they're not dumping millions into traditional advertising-instead, they've mastered the art of letting their customers do the talking. And boy, are they talking. Videos tagged with Aritzia have racked up billions of views, with people obsessing over everything from their Melina pants to those Babaton bodysuits that come in like 30 colors. The brand's foot traffic actually increased 208% between 2019 and 2022, which is basically unheard of in an era when most retailers are struggling to get people through the door.

But here's what makes them different. They've figured out that stores aren't dead-they're just evolving. Their boutiques feel more like curated experiences than typical retail spaces, with that Instagram-worthy aesthetic and sales associates who actually seem to know what they're doing. The fitting rooms even have mirrors outside the individual stalls, which sounds random but apparently encourages that spontaneous sharing and connection thing that Gen Z lives for. It's smart, really.

The brand operates over 115 boutiques across North America now, and they're not slowing down. They entered the U.S. market back in 2007, and now about half their business comes from south of the border. Their ecommerce game is strong too-online sales represent 35% of total revenue and grew 36% in recent years. They've basically nailed the omnichannel thing that everyone talks about but few actually execute well.

And let's talk about their brands for a second. Most people don't realize that almost everything in an Aritzia store is actually their own in-house labels-Wilfred, Babaton, TNA, Sunday Best. Each one has its own vibe, its own aesthetic, but they all share that same commitment to quality fabrics and construction. It's like they're running multiple fashion houses under one roof, which gives you options without overwhelming you.

The price point is interesting too. A basic tank might run you $80, which sounds steep until you compare it to actual luxury brands. They position themselves as aspirational but attainable, and it works. They've even got a layaway program that not everyone knows about-20% down and they'll hold your item for 30 days. Plus those warehouse sales where stuff goes up to 50% off.

What really sets them apart though is how they've embraced influencer culture without being obnoxious about it. When Kendall Jenner posted herself in that red Super Puff back in 2018, it created an actual frenzy. But they also work with smaller creators, and they feature regular customers on their Instagram through their "Aritzia IRL" campaign. It feels authentic because it kind of is-these are real people wearing real clothes, not just models in a studio.

The company's been around since 1984, founded by Brian Hill in Vancouver, and they've grown from that single store to a billion-dollar business. They're still innovating too, recently acquiring Reigning Champ to expand into menswear. The brand's got this three-pronged strategy: geographic expansion, ecommerce investment, and building brand awareness. Simple, but effective.
