The Endless War Audiobook: Is the Audio Version Worth It?

Danielle L. Jensen · Narrated by Summer Morton · Unabridged

About the Book

The Endless War is the fourth book in Danielle L. Jensen's Bridge Kingdom series, a fantasy romance with political intrigue at its core. This installment picks up with Keris newly crowned as king, his relationship with Zarrah exposed and immediately weaponized against him. Zarrah has been imprisoned on Devil's Island by the Empress who once commanded her loyalty, and the novel splits its focus between Keris's efforts to form a desperate alliance and Zarrah's fight to survive among dangerous prisoners while uncovering the possibility of rebellion.

The series sits at the intersection of epic fantasy and romance, political maneuvering and kingdom-level stakes sit alongside the central relationship between two characters who have been on opposite sides of a war. By the fourth book, Jensen leans harder into the consequence side of that equation: these characters are paying for the choices made in earlier volumes.

This is not a standalone entry point. Readers or listeners unfamiliar with the earlier Bridge Kingdom books will be dropped into the middle of a complex web of alliances, betrayals, and personal history. If you haven't read books one through three, start there.

Narration & Audio Performance

Summer Morton has narrated earlier entries in the Bridge Kingdom series, which matters here, she brings continuity to a cast of characters that listeners of the series will already associate with her voice. Her delivery is consistent with what she's brought to the prior books: clear diction, controlled pacing, and a tone that suits the series' mix of tension and romance without swinging too hard toward melodrama.

Morton handles the dual-perspective structure reasonably well, maintaining enough distinction between Keris and Zarrah's sections to keep the parallel narratives easy to track. She doesn't rely on exaggerated character voices, which works in her favor in a book where the emotional weight comes from the situation rather than theatrical delivery.

If you've already listened to earlier books with Morton narrating, there's no reason to switch formats for this one. If you're coming to the series fresh, the Audible sample is worth a quick listen to assess whether her style suits your preferences for fantasy romance narration.

The Audible Verdict

For existing fans of the Bridge Kingdom series who have been listening along with Summer Morton, this is the natural continuation and a reasonable credit use. For newcomers, this is the wrong starting point regardless of format, begin with book one. The narration is solid but not exceptional enough to elevate the experience beyond what the print version offers, so this sits firmly in free-trial or series-completion territory rather than a standout credit pick.

Is This Book a Good Fit for Audio?

Fantasy romance with dual perspectives is generally a decent audio fit. The narrative structure here is linear, two protagonists, two locations, alternating sections, and Morton's consistency across characters keeps that structure clear in audio form. There are no charts, maps, or visual elements that would be lost in the format.

The political and emotional complexity of the Bridge Kingdom series does require some attention to track the alliances and history across four books, which may be slightly more demanding in audio than in print where you can flip back. Listeners who are deep in the series and familiar with the characters will have no trouble. First-time listeners jumping in at book four will struggle regardless of format.
