Editor's Take
So here's the thing about ba&sh-it's basically what happens when two best friends decide to create the wardrobe they've always wanted, and it turns out everyone else wants it too. Barbara Boccara and Sharon Krief created ba&sh in 2003, and the name? It's literally just the first letters of their names smooshed together. Kind of genius in its simplicity, right?
What makes ba&sh different is this whole Parisian thing they've got going on, but not in that stuffy, unattainable way. The ba&sh style remains distinctly Parisian, uniting an expression of freedom with an easy, joyful elegance. Think less "I'm trying really hard" and more "I just threw this on and somehow look amazing." You know that friend who always seems effortlessly put together? That's the vibe.
The brand's grown like crazy-now represented in more than 400 shops around the world. And they're not just sitting pretty on past success. In 2021, it officially launches its BLOSSOM sustainable development programme and establishes a concrete action plan aiming to accomplish a profound and ambitious transformation. They're actually thinking about the future, which feels refreshing in fashion.
Here's what's interesting: In 2015, L Catterton private equity firm acquired a 50% stake in the Parisian brand to sustain its development and international expansion, with the support of LVMH expertise and wide network. So they've got serious backing, but they've managed to keep that intimate, friend-to-friend feeling that started the whole thing.
The collection itself? The ba&sh collection is designed in Ibiza and Paris and sets out to spark joy and pleasure, encouraging a feeling of freedom and confidence. Dresses are kind of their thing-people rave about them. But they've also got everything from cashmere sweaters to leather jackets, all with this signature relaxed-but-polished aesthetic. It's the kind of stuff that works for brunch, then somehow transitions to dinner without you having to think too hard about it.
And get this-The average age of ba&sh employees is 32 years old. The whole company feels young and energetic, which probably explains why they're so active on Instagram and TikTok. They get that fashion isn't just about the clothes anymore; it's about the whole experience, the community, the story behind it all.
What I find kind of cool is their commitment to causes. The brand has been involved in the fight against violence against women for over two years with Women Safe & Children. More recently, ba&sh signed the first ever UNESCO with a private company to raise awareness and train all its global employees on the themes of diversity, discrimination and racism. They're putting their money where their mouth is, which matters.
The price point sits in that "accessible luxury" sweet spot-not fast fashion cheap, but not mortgage-your-house expensive either. You're paying for quality materials, thoughtful design, and pieces that'll actually last beyond one season. Though fair warning, once you try on one of their dresses, you might find yourself coming back for more. Just saying.
