Editor's Take

You know that feeling when your car won't start and you're standing there in a parking lot, wondering if it's the battery? That's basically how Batteries Plus got started back in 1988-except they decided to do something about it.

What began as a single store in Green Bay has grown into this massive network of over 700 locations, and honestly, they've become the go-to place for pretty much any power-related problem you can think of. We're talking car batteries, sure, but also those weird little button batteries for your key fob, laptop batteries, marine batteries for your boat, and even those specialty batteries for medical devices that you can't find anywhere else.

But here's where it gets interesting-they've evolved way beyond just batteries. Walk into a Batteries Plus today and you'll find them fixing cracked phone screens, programming key fobs, and selling smart home gadgets. It's like they looked at the modern world's relationship with technology and said, "Yeah, we can help with all of that."

The franchise model is pretty clever too. Each location is independently owned, which means you get that local business feel with the backing of a major brand. And speaking of backing-they've got some serious expertise behind them. Their technicians go through training programs, and they've got this whole virtual corporate university thing called empowerYOU.

What really sets them apart is their willingness to tackle the weird stuff. Need a battery for a 1970s calculator? They probably have it. Golf cart acting up? They've got specialized batteries for that. It's this combination of everyday convenience and niche expertise that's kept them growing for over three decades.

The numbers are pretty impressive-they're pulling in around $750 million annually and employ about 2,500 people across multiple continents. Not bad for a company that started with the simple idea of making replacement batteries easier to find.
