Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Bearaby-they basically took one look at the weighted blanket industry and said, "We can do this better." And honestly? They kind of nailed it.

Most weighted blankets are stuffed with plastic pellets or glass beads, which sounds about as cozy as sleeping under a bag of marbles. Bearaby went a completely different route with their hand-knitted design that gets its weight from the actual yarn itself. No fillers, no weird lumps, just this chunky-knit pattern that looks like something you'd find in a high-end design magazine.

The company's got two main materials they work with: organic cotton for their Cotton Napper and TENCEL for their Tree Napper. That TENCEL one is particularly clever-it's made from eucalyptus wood pulp and supposedly sleeps cooler than cotton. Which is huge, because traditional weighted blankets can turn you into a sweaty mess.

What's interesting is how they've expanded beyond just blankets. They've got weighted eye masks, heating pads, sensory pillows, even weighted stuffed animals. It's like they figured out that people want that "deep touch pressure" feeling in different ways throughout their day, not just at bedtime.

The sustainability angle isn't just marketing fluff either. They're plastic-negative certified, which means they remove more plastic from the environment than they produce. Plus their manufacturing partners are Fairtrade certified, and they've got partnerships with organizations like Ocean Conservancy.

But here's what really sets them apart-the design. These aren't medical-looking blankets you hide under your regular bedding. They're actually pretty enough to leave out as decor. The chunky knit pattern creates these big loops that not only look cool but also help with airflow.

The price point sits in that premium range-you're looking at around $200-300 for most of their blankets. But considering they're hand-knitted and use organic materials, it's not completely unreasonable. Plus they offer a 30-day return window, though they do charge processing fees.

One thing that's kind of fascinating is their approach to weight recommendations. Most companies just say "10% of your body weight," but Bearaby gets more specific about going lighter if you're between sizes. They seem to really understand that the goal is comfort, not just hitting some arbitrary number.

The company's been growing pretty steadily-they made the Inc. 5000 list in 2022 and have won multiple design awards. Their products are sold at Nordstrom now, which is usually a good sign that a brand has hit mainstream acceptance.
