Returns

What is the return window?
Home Depot only allows returns on paint within 30 days of purchase if a customer is not satisfied with the provided color. Since Behr products are sold exclusively at The Home Depot, returns follow Home Depot's paint return policy rather than a separate Behr policy.

Can I return opened cans of paint?
You can only return opened cans of paint to Home Depot as long as it is within the 30-day purchase window and you are unsatisfied with the color. Additionally, if the paint is the wrong shade, Home Depot will attempt to correct the shade color, and if they cannot, they will exchange the paint for a closer shade. For Home Depot to accept an opened can of paint, it cannot be 70% empty, as this may be seen as attempting to take advantage of the policy.

Do I need a receipt to return an item?
Customers should bring a receipt for a refund or store credit. However, if you have been given the wrong type of paint (for example, matte instead of gloss), you will be eligible for a refund, as this is the associate's mistake and not yours. If the paint is unopened and within 30 days of purchase, you can return any paint to Home Depot.

Can I return tinted paint?
Customers can only return tinted paint to Home Depot if they have tried it and found it was not the correct shade within a few days. Home Depot will attempt to correct the color, but that is all it can do in this instance, as it cannot resell opened-tinted paint.

What if I received a damaged or incorrect item?
If this product is found not to perform as specified on the label during the warranty period, Behr Process LLC will, at its option and upon presentation of proof-of-purchase (the original receipt), either furnish an equivalent amount of new product or refund the original purchase price of this product to you.

Editor's Take

Here's the thing about Behr that most people don't realize - this isn't some faceless corporate paint giant. It started in 1947 when a guy named Otho Behr Jr. was literally mixing wood stains in his family's garage and selling them from the back of his 1941 Ford station wagon. That wagon still sits in their Santa Ana headquarters lobby today, kind of like a reminder that even massive companies started somewhere small.

Fast forward to now, and Behr's become one of the largest architectural coatings companies in North America. But what's interesting is how they've managed to stay relevant, especially with younger homeowners. While a lot of paint companies were still doing things the old-school way, Behr jumped headfirst into TikTok and Instagram, creating actual competition shows with DIY influencers. Their "To DIY For" series wasn't just marketing fluff - it genuinely helped them become the most-followed paint brand on TikTok, with over 200,000 followers.

The numbers tell a pretty compelling story. More than 500 team members have been with Behr for over 20 years, which says something about how they treat people. They've been named the #1 Most Trusted Paint Brand in America by multiple organizations, and Consumer Reports consistently ranks their products at the top. Their BEHR Dynasty line, for instance, grabbed the #1 spot in the Interior Paint category.

What really sets them apart, though, is this obsession with solving the color paralysis problem. You know that feeling when you're staring at 47 shades of white and can't pick one? Behr partnered with Google Cloud to create ChatHUE, an AI tool that actually helps you choose colors. It's not just a gimmick - nearly 40% of consumers say they hesitate to start projects because they can't decide on a color, so this actually addresses a real pain point.

They're also doing some genuinely innovative stuff with sustainability. Their new ECOMIX line contains 20% plant-based ingredients and is USDA Certified Biobased, but here's the kicker - it performs just as well as their traditional paint. So you're not sacrificing quality for environmental responsibility, which is usually the trade-off.

The exclusive partnership with Home Depot has been going strong for 45 years now, which means you can't just walk into any hardware store and grab Behr products. Some people love the convenience of knowing exactly where to find it; others wish it was more widely available. But that exclusivity has helped them maintain consistent quality control and pricing.

And speaking of pricing - Behr positions itself as premium quality at accessible price points. They're not the cheapest option on the shelf, but they're not trying to be. The value proposition is pretty straightforward: better coverage, better durability, and you'll probably need fewer coats. Their Marquee line even comes with a one-coat coverage guarantee on over 700 colors, which is basically unheard of in the industry.

One thing that keeps coming up in reviews is their color selection. With over 3,000 colors and those creative names (English Channel, anyone?), they've turned color selection into something almost fun. Their ColorSmart tool lets you visualize colors in actual room settings, upload your own photos, or even pull color palettes from your Pinterest boards.

The company's been around for nearly 80 years now, and they're still family-owned through Masco Corporation. They've got manufacturing facilities across North America and have expanded into Mexico, Chile, and India. But despite the global footprint, they've managed to maintain that original garage-startup mentality - at least according to the people who work there.
