Editor's Take
So here's the thing about Born Shoes-they're kind of the anti-fast-fashion of footwear. And I mean that in the best way possible.
With more than 20 years in the footwear business, Born knows what women want from their shoes. All pieces are handcrafted with an eye for detail so you know they'll last. But it's not just about longevity. These shoes use this old-world technique called Opanka hand-stitching, which basically means each pair is sewn by actual human hands in a way that makes them flex naturally with your foot. It's the kind of detail you don't really think about until you've been walking around all day and realize your feet don't hurt.
The leather thing is worth mentioning too. Most are made from premium leathers sourced from the world's best tanneries, but select shoes are crafted from other superior fabrics including linen and decadent velvet. They burnish some, distress others-each pair ends up with its own character. Notice how some brands just stamp out identical shoes? Born's doing the opposite.
And look, comfort footwear used to mean ugly. But Born figured out how to make shoes that don't sacrifice style for that cushioned footbed everyone secretly wants. Ergonomic foam cushioning supports your feet with every step, making these some of the most comfortable shoes you'll ever wear. They've got everything from sleek loafers to ankle boots to sandals that actually look good with jeans.
Here's something interesting: the company's based in Greenwich, Connecticut, but they're part of the larger BH Shoe Holdings family. They sell through their own website plus retailers like Nordstrom, Zappos, and Macy's. Prices typically range from around $100 to $200, which positions them in that sweet spot between department store brands and luxury footwear.
The brand's been building a following on social media too-about 39,000 followers on Instagram, over 176,000 on Facebook. They're even on TikTok now, showing behind-the-scenes glimpses of their design process. It's that whole "take comfort anywhere" philosophy they keep talking about, and honestly? After looking at customer reviews, it seems like they're delivering on it. People mention buying multiple pairs, wearing them to Disney World, using them for teaching jobs where you're on your feet all day.
One thing to know: you may return your purchase within 30 days of shipment for a refund or exchange. Shoes must be in original, unworn condition to be accepted for returns/exchange (unless defective). There's a small return shipping fee, but exchanges are free. And they offer free standard shipping on most orders, which is always nice.
