Hi folks,
Welcome to our spring cleaning-turned-impromptu Tariff Sale, with up to 20% off site-wide! When we planned this sale, we thought it would be a routine springtime promotion, but in the last few days it has turned into something very, very different. We want to share our perspective, make a promise, and ask for your help. We can already see that the new tariffs will be bad for our business. How bad remains to be seen. We have spice shipments in transit at this very moment, so we’ll find out soon how the new tariffs will be applied.
What we do know is that we're a social enterprise, and we will not cut payments to our partner farmers. Our spices are grown in their ideal climates by expert farmers who are connected to the history and cultural heritage of their crops. As long as Vietnamese royal cinnamon trees can’t be uprooted, our supply chains cannot be rerouted.
Now for the promise: we will not raise our prices in response to these tariffs. We already cap the prices on our core spices at $10 on our site, and we work hard to keep our products accessible with one of the lowest free shipping minimums on the internet. This is in addition to our satisfaction guarantee and a pay-what-you-can program. Our spices are grown and harvested year after year to be consumed and enjoyed, not hoarded or hidden away.
To show that we’re serious about not raising our prices, and to finance another year of purchasing from smallholder farmers in the face of economic instability and political crisis, we’re extending our biggest sale ever, up to 20% off sitewide, through Tuesday at 11:59pm ET.
We’re asking for your help: shop for spices and share the news by forwarding this email to the cooks in your life so they can save and support smallholder farmers too. Spices make great gifts for birthdays, dinner party hosts, and springtime holidays. Your purchases are vital in pursuing regenerative and traditional approaches to agriculture from Afghanistan to Zanzibar.
These may be uncertain times, but the kitchen is a refuge, and feeding others is an expression of love and care. Through it all, we the people just keep on cooking. Thanks for cooking alongside us.
With appreciation,
