A multidimensional paprika-base blend with fermented chilis, garlic and onions, our Berbere Origin Blend uses only ingredients grown at origin in Ethiopia—including rosemary, grains of paradise and a dozen more spices! The process to make the Berbere blend is an art form, from grinding to fermenting the chilis to drying and grinding once again. Formulated based on our partner suppliers’ family recipes for this cherished classic—with several grandmothers’ help to find the perfect balance of each spice!—we love it in both traditional slow-cooked Ethiopian recipes and as a no-cook spice that’s perfect for summertime heat waves.
Mix into oil- or mayo-based dressings for boldly-flavored grain salads, potato salads, or chicken salads. Stir into creamy beans for a smoky BBQ vibe, or sprinkle generously onto tofu or egg scramble for a campfire-inspired breakfast plate.
