In This Newsletter: Herbs & Garlic Origin Blend, Tasting Notes, Use Recommendations
Introducing our brand-new Origin Blend from Oaxaca, Mexico: super-versatile Herbs & Garlic! Created with four freeze-dried local Oaxacan herbs and crunchy, buttery sea salt from the coast Colima in western Mexico, this blend is our new favorite go-to seasoning salt.
Launched as a part of our May Spice Clubbox, it’s been receiving so much praise that one customer asked, “Will the Herb & Garlic be available in the big size or do I need to hoard it?” (No big container available as of now but we’re taking notes of the request!)
Tasting Notes. Known for its pungent essential oils and traditionally used as a digestive aid, epazote has a resinous and medicinal aroma on its own. When paired with other Oaxacan herbs like hoja santa, cilantro and parsley, this blend offers a sweetly nutty, freshly herby and slightly smoky balance. The addition of onion and garlic evokes more umami tasting notes: roasted tomato, melty mozzarella, creamy garlic butter, sautéed peppers.
Use Recommendations. As our customer Deb said, “Herbs & Garlic might be my new Urfa Chili: I’m putting it on just about everything.” It’s great as a finishing salt on eggs, summer tomatoes, and avocados, as well as on roasted potatoes and French fries, salmon and fish chowders. It’s fresh and beautiful in salad dressings, stir-fries and beans. (Fun fact: epazote is often used in beany dishes to help reduce gas and bloating.) As our customer Jennifer has discovered, “The new Herbs & Garlic is great on curry made with coconut milk.” We love seeing your creations on the Spice Forum!
