JRS: π₯ How Art Builds New Possibilities

| No images? Click here Volume 29, Issue #12 | March 28, 2025 Burning Man has been called the Art Olympics, a comparison that is both ridiculous and oddly apt. While there are no medals and nobody is competing (except maybe for sleep loss and cracked nails), the adventurous creators who bring their wild imaginings to Black Rock City are in many ways comparable to super athletes. Art crews prepare for months, even years, working closely together under conditions that stretch their capacities in every direction. Bringing art to Black Rock demands serious project management, logistics, financing, fundraising, team coordination... all while building participatory art that can stand up to harsh desert conditions. In all these ways, building Burning Man art is indeed an Olympian feat that requires sacrifice, discipline, persistence, and a sense of humor. When artists receive a Black Rock City Honoraria grant to bring their work to the playa, living this experience opens new pathways for the artists and participants alike. Read on to meet the people creating five 2025 Honoraria art projects that are bridging cultures, sharing new stories, and nurturing creative community. When you support Burning Man Project through donations or higher-priced tickets, youβre directly funding these Honoraria grants, bringing more connective creativity to the world. If youβre looking to plug in before the playa β are you in Portland, New York City, Chicago, Seattle or Detroit? Be sure to join Regional and Black Rock City leaders for an in-person Community Forum in your city. All the details are below, including a form to request a forum where you live! If you're in the Bay Area, be sure to drop by Night of Ideas. And if you're in Australia, Blazing Swan requests your presence for a Cosmic Coincidence. Grab your goggles β the next Black Rock City ticket sale is just weeks away. Did you find your bike yet? Black Rock City 2025 Ticket Sale Update All are welcome to bring their magic to Black Rock City β yes, that means YOU! Going to Burning Man doesn't have to be complicated and you don't need to be part of a huge theme camp or project. Just gather your friends and make it happen. The next ticket sale for Black Rock City 2025 is right around the corner. Watch this space! Ticket Aid and Resilience Program applications are open now. Ticket Aid offers reduced-priced tickets to participants who are on a limited income. Resilience makes Black Rock City possible for people severely affected by natural disasters or geopolitical conflict. Both programs are underwritten and made possible thanks to donations to Burning Man Project and generous purchases of higher-priced tickets. Drop by a Burning Man Community Forum in the cities listed in the intro to chat with us about bringing your friends or art collective to Black Rock City this year. We canβt wait to see you all on the playa.
