The Man at 40 Since the beginning, Burning Man has explored a simple but powerful idea: many of life's most meaningful experiences come not from consuming, but from creating together. Burning Man's anniversary is a celebration of four decades of creative culture, and an invitation to imagine what we can build together over the next forty years. In a new Journal post Stuart Mangrum muses on Burning Man's big 4-0, how one man's wish to surround himself with interesting friends sparked a global cultural movement, and how Burning Man's future is writing itself in small, human moments. Many of you will be gathering with your favorite humans to celebrate the solstice and Burning Man's 40th. However you illuminate the night — with dance, an effigy burn, participatory art, or storytelling — capture the moment and post it with the hashtag #next40burningman. We'll share as many of your stories as we can. The conversations between Jeff and Larry are fascinating; they illuminate Larry's thoughts on culture, community, and the social purpose of Burning Man. In celebration of Burning Man's 40th year, we've published them as a book. Out of Nothing, Everything: Conversations with Larry Harvey is available to order, or you can use the coupon code below to download the EBook for free. Every human who steps onto the playa has role in bringing this grand city to life. In a new Journal post, meet members of Gate, Perimeter, and Exodus (GPE), and Emergency Services Department (ESD) to learn how helping make the rocket go has enriched their Burn, and ignited a greater sense of purpose beyond the dust.
