Participation in Burning Man equips people with knowledge they bring into their professional lives and local communities. Burners are teachers, creatives, and community leaders; the skills they acquire have a meaningful impact on schools, communities, companies, and local governments. As the nonprofit that nurtures this endlessly inventive global cultural movement, Burning Man Project develops courses, produces convenings, and works with cultural contributors around the world to support skill-building and personal development. Curious? Begin by exploring courses in Burning Man Hive. And of course, get involved in your local Regional community or Burners Without Borders Chapter. Burning Man is a training ground. Read on for our latest Journal piece, which introduces three participants whose Black Rock City roles have deeply informed their work in the world. This piece is paired with a Burning Man LIVE podcast interview with Ranger Keeper, who brings her Burning Man knowhow into play as school principal in the tiny town next to Black Rock City. Are YOU inspired to make your Regional Event or gathering more sustainable, resilient, or accessible? You have until Wednesday, November 19 to apply for a Regional Event Civic Ignition Grant that could fund your innovative idea. Details in this very newsletter! Velez writes in Medium: I believe that the principles are the main reason Burning Man is such a unique place. Where else in the world are you expected to bring in everything you need for 10 days and bring it all out, have everyone around you wanting to lend you a hand, have an entire city’s economy run on gifting (you can only use money at Arctica, to buy ice), be encouraged to participate in various ways, live in the moment, and have the opportunity to express yourself in ways that are not possible in modern society? Harlan Gruber's sacred geometry portals have been a fixture of Black Rock City since 2004. When you experience Gruber's art, you understand that he is working to change how people exist together. He outlined his philosophy in Portal to the New Earth, a book that explains the portals' sacred geometry, and how to utilize this knowledge to shift consciousness.
