| No images? Click here Volume 29, Issue #2 | October 12, 2024 How has Burning Man changed you and your community? Maybe it inspired you to reinvent yourself or start something new in the world? Perhaps you met your loves, your best friends or collaborators around Burning Man. It could be you’re deep in creating art, or organizing a project. Maybe you took a year off from Black Rock City. Or you’re new to Burning Man, and eager to contribute to a cultural movement that fuels connection, creativity and joy. However Burning Man changed your life, know this: we rely on YOU to keep the flame lit. Read on to learn how you can contribute to Burner-led projects helping those in the eastern Carolinas recover from Hurricane Helene. Shall we dive into this edition? Meet three long-time Black Rock City contributors who help build the city, and learn how participation has impacted their lives. If you were in Black Rock City this year, take 10 minutes to fill out the post-event survey (closes October 15), and be sure to take the Census. There's a new way to experience Black Rock City in virtual reality. Look for your missing things in our Lost & Found database. And... Jamen Percy's new BRC GigaPan is live! While you’re here… Burning Man Project is a nonprofit and no Burning Man program, including Black Rock City, has corporate sponsors. Further, the ephemeral city we create together, and our year-round work nurturing the Burning Man global cultural movement is only partially supported by ticket revenue. We want Burning Man to continue changing lives around the world. To do this, we need your support. Bay Area humans! SUNDAY, October 13 is our FAVORITE day in San Francisco! Put on your sparkle pants and get thee to San Francisco Decompression! Extraordinary fun is had by ALL! (Theme camps, music, art cars, laughter… you know you want it!). Get your tickets here! Burners Responding to Hurricane Helene Burners Without Borders (BWB) have been closely following Hurricane Helene since before it made landfall in Florida. Many of you are wondering how to offer support. Visit the BWB website for a list of Burner-led projects that are helping people affected; some of these projects could also use your help, if you have capacity. (Photo courtesy of Grassroots Aid Partnership) YOU Built this City: How Participation Fuels a Global Cultural Movement YOU do it. We all do it. TOGETHER. Whether it’s a theme camp, mutant vehicle, art project or running things behind the scenes, Black Rock City defines “participatory experience.” Every August, thousands of hard-working humans make their way to Northern Nevada to co-create a mighty desert city. They get involved in a myriad of ways — from organizing theme camps and building art, to lending their skills to any number of teams and projects. In Black Rock City this year, we met up with three people who make the magic happen before you even arrive in BRC! We wanted to know: Why is it important to participate? And how has helping create Black Rock City had a positive impact on their lives and communities? (Photo by Gurps Chawla) Tell Us About Your Burn — Fill Out the Post-event Survey Have event feedback? The 2024 Post-event Survey is still live! Whether you just had your best Burn ever, or you encountered some sticky challenges, we want to hear from you! The survey is short, and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. If you’ve sent feedback in through FLIP in the past, this survey is the method for feedback collection for 2024. We’re eager to know what you care about so we can make Black Rock City and the world a better place. While you're here... the BRC Census gathers demographic data about Black Rock citizens, so we can all learn more about the humans who bring BRC to life. Please take 15 minutes to fill it out too!
