Time (while, yes it is a construct) is nonetheless relentlessly moving forward. There is SO much to do β particularly if you've set your sights on Black Rock City. And if you are BRC-bound very soon, there are two important things to which you must pay attention. The 2024 online Survival Guide is LIVE. Please read it. You'll receive a hard copy with your ticket, but the full text (and then some) is also available now, online. The other important thing? Participation! Black Rock City is imagined, built and managed by YOU and 79,999 other lovely and clever humans. In this very newsletter, we've provided a veritable catalog of ways you can help out. Begin by filling out the Volunteer Questionnaire in your Burner Profile to lend a hand on a team, or connect directly with a participant-led project and ask how you can help. Opportunities and possibilities abound! And there's more! Black Rock City Census has published all its juicy data from BRC 2023. Read the summary, and the report, below. Read the 2024 Survival Guide ~ Cover to Cover! The Survival Guide for Black Rock City 2024 is ready for your curious eyes. Whether this is your first time in BRC, or your 20th β the Survival Guide is essential reading every single year. Yes, that means for YOU. Information changes every year, and maaaybe also sometimes people forget things. Dive into this year's edition to read all about the city you will help create. Find out how to navigate, stay safe, and access resources. Learn the (yes, there are) rules. Get the lowdown on leaving no trace in BRC and beyond. And glean oh so many other nuggets of wisdom β including what to pack, and what NOT to pack. Insights from the Black Rock City Census 2023 Annual Data Report Who, exactly, frolicked in Black Rock City 2023? Where did they come from? What do they believe? And how were they impacted by their time in the dust? Inquiring minds can finally rest easy, the Black Rock City Census has just released the comprehensive final statistics from their online survey. Led by volunteers, Census is a collaborative research project that collects demographic data on, and aims to develop a deeper understanding of, the diverse community that inhabits Black Rock City. A performer, musician, or storyteller? Do you have something you want to share with the Burning Man community? Burners Without Borders (BWB) Camp invites you on stage. Fill out the form below to tell us what you would like to bring. Fill out the BWB Camp Programming Application (Photo by Zippy Lomax) Blind Burners Seek Container Design Help and Bike Donations Blind Burners supports blind and low vision participants in Black Rock City. They're calling for artists, design thinkers, container wizards, and especially other blind and low vision Burners who can help customize the interior of their shipping container and decorate the exterior with murals. They're also seeking donations of well-maintained tandem bikes, tricycles, bike trailers and other playa transports that are useful to blind and low vision Burners. Post-BRC, they plan to re-use the bikes with community partners in Reno. Fill out this form to help Blind Burners (Photo courtesy of Blind Burners) Learn About BLAST and Get Your Theme Camp Green Certified Burner Leadership Achieving Sustainable Theme Camps (BLAST) is a participant-led green camp rating system in Black Rock City. If youβve heard of LEED for green buildings, think of BLAST as the Burning Man equivalent. They visit camps to assess and recognize sustainability efforts, and offer guidance for next steps. Hell yes! After a multi-year hiatus, The Black Rock Beacon is back in 2024, producing a bonafide newspaper to delight and inform Black Rock citizens. Send your news article, dusty housekeeping tips, fab trends, or best of/worst of lists (in 50 to 200 words) to [email protected]. Looking for story ideas or other ways to help? Email [email protected]. Apply By July 31 to Bring Your Art, Camp or Art Car to Venice Afterburn Where: Venice, California Venice Afterburn is coming up, lickety-split! Expect two days (no sleepovers) of burn-tastic interactivity open to all, whether or not you were in Black Rock City mere weeks earlier. Want to bring your thing? Art, theme camp and mutant vehicle applications are open now, until July 31.
