| No images? Click here Volume 29, Issue #28 | August 16, 2025 Black Rock City takes place in one of the most challenging and unforgiving environments you will experience. The joke is: the Black Rock Desert is one of the most strikingly beautiful and utterly ethereal locations in the world that will ever try to kill you. In and around all the goodness — the connection, the awe, and the shenanigans — as a dusty Black Rock citizen, you need to look out for your fellow Burners and take care of your body much more attentively than you normally would. Be sure to pack 1.5 gallons of water, per person, for every day you will be in Black Rock City. AND drink water, all day long. In the spirit of Radical Self-reliance, you'll find essential safety infrastructure in Black Rock City. But ultimately, YOU are responsible for your personal health and safety. In this edition, we’ve got everything you need to know about taking care of yourself and what services are available, should the need arise. But that ain't all; follow the handy links below for important safety information. There are several ways for you to access information and help in Black Rock City during an emergency — scroll for the goods. Did the FOMO finally get you? There are still tickets available at $950 and up. For the first time ever, you can buy a vehicle pass without also purchasing a ticket. Rejoice! Personal Survival Checklist There are 1,001 Burning Man gear checklists on the internet. Each contains its unique flavor of playa wisdom. We've created the survival checklist linked below with your health, safety and Radical Self-reliance in mind. Every individual must bring everything on the You Must Bring list — that includes common sense, an open mind, a sense of humor, and a positive attitude. How to Get Important Info During an Emergency Here are a few ways to access the latest information if there is an emergency that impacts Black Rock citizens:
Introducing The Haven by Zendo Project The Haven by Zendo Project is a new supportive space in Black Rock City for Zendo Project to provide harm reduction and peer support services. The Haven is available to support participants who need help transforming difficult psychedelic experiences — and other complex emotions — into opportunities for learning and growth. Find The Haven by Zendo Project on 6:30 between Esplanade and A, from Monday night all the way through Monday after the Temple Burn. Take Steps to Beat the Heat! While it's a little early to predict what the temperatures will be in Black Rock City this year, one thing we're sure of: it will be hot. A hat, sunscreen and maybe a fancy parasol will all help you stay cool in peak heat. Take it slow during the hottest hours of the day. Seek well-ventilated shade and drink water. Be sure to get help if you're experiencing headaches, stomach cramps, abdominal pains, flu-like symptoms, or mood swings. You’re Sick or Hurt in Black Rock City. What Are Your Options? The first thing you should do is determine whether you can treat yourself using a personal or camp first aid kit. If your illness or injury is more severe than you can manage yourself, ask your campmates for assistance. Alternatively, go to one of Black Rock City's medical stations at 3:00 & C, 9:00 & C, or Esplanade & 5:15. Look for the large red crosses. Any Black Rock Ranger (look for the khaki shirts), ESD staff (look for the yellow shirts), or anyone with a radio can help you to find the right care. Emergency Medical Transport New for 2025: Burning Man Project’s contracted air medical provider for this year does not offer membership plans. While no membership is required, we recommend reviewing your insurance policy in advance to understand your coverage for emergency medical transport. Chances are good you’ll never need to be transported off the playa for a medical emergency, but if you have a complicated pre-existing condition or want to be prepared for the possibility, you may want to evaluate your insurance policy to understand your coverage, adjust your coverage if needed, and consider getting insurance if you don’t have it. What Do You Do if it Rains in Black Rock City? Long, sustained rainfall is uncommon, but storm cells may bring high winds, lightning and rain; you should be mentally and logistically prepared for this. Pack rain boots, bring a bucket (in case the porta-potties are out of commission), pack for cold weather, bring all the food/medicine you need, and bring a battery or solar-powered radio. BMIR (94.5 FM) broadcasts news and announcements at the top of the hour. If you have internet access, watch the BRC Dashboard for traffic, weather, and other important information. Keep Your Food Cool with Ice from Arctica Sure, ice can keep your drinks cool. But it's also extremely helpful in preventing food-borne illness by ensuring your tasty snacks stay fresh all week long. In Black Rock City, ice is sold at Arctica in the Center Camp Plaza, in the 3:00 & G (Ice Cubed) and 9:00 & G (Ice Nine) plazas, and bulk sales at 6:15 & K (Large Order Outpost). Come prepared with means to transport your ice back to camp! Ice is $12 for a 16lb bag of crushed ice and $7 for a 10lb block. The 3, 6, and 9 o’clock igloos accept credit cards, Apple Pay, and cash. The Large Order Outpost is cash-free. PRE-EVENT ICE SALES
