It's a global cultural movement supported by a year-round nonprofit. And it's YOU, dear human, reading these words at this very moment. How Burning Man Emboldens Artists from Black Rock City to the World Burning Man inspires people to explore and create art. The ripples of impact often extend well beyond artists’ creative endeavors. Many Burners who become artists are now teachers and leaders who install their awe-inspiring work well beyond Burning Man’s ephemeral events and cities, in permanent communities around the world. These works reach people who may never have heard of Burning Man, opening minds to new creative vistas. Meet three fascinating artists — Valerie Mallory, NiNo Alicea and Jen Lewin — whose creative journeys took them from Black Rock City to the world. In this thoughtful two-part series in the Burning Man Journal, Caveat Magister unpacks what he considers Burning Man's approach to philosophy. Then he asks why a philosophy is necessary for Black Rock City and the Burning Man global cultural movement, versus say, a music festival or birthday party. No spoilers here. Art: “The Only Other Thing Is Nothing” by Midabi, 2022 (Photo by Ranny Víquez) Support Burning Man Project's Year-round Work Sparking Creativity I didn't live until I made art. Burning Man unlocked a door that I never even thought existed in me, or I knew existed, but never dared to open. It was open at Burning Man, and not only protected, but loved and promoted. Art that begins in Black Rock City continues to impact and inspire communities around the world. Burning Man Project is the nonprofit in service to this wildly creative global cultural movement. Since 2014, we’ve given $11 million in Black Rock City Honoraria grants, which help emerging and established artists build and bring their work to the playa. By making a tax-deductible donation to Burning Man Project, you help us ensure the future of Black Rock City, support artists and spark innovation, and bring about a more connected, creative world. Thank you for your generosity.
