The JRS: Tickets + Mutants of BRC!
The Jackrabbit Speaks by Burning Man Project | V28:#24 ...
| No images? Click here Volume 28, Issue #24 | August 8, 2024 This bunny has a fixation on mutant vehicles, those booming, pulsating conveyances that criss cross the playa 'round the clock. Maybe you do too? The big ones inspire awe. The little ones are just... awwwwww. WHO in their right minds devotes years of their life to a giant flaming sea sponge that rolls once, maybe twice, every year? Read on to learn all about these irreverent mutant vehicle creators in "The Mutants of Black Rock City," the new documentary from Profiles in Dust. Day by day, an ephemeral crucible of creativity is rising from the dust. The Golden Spike is in the ground. Last Friday, hundreds of dedicated humans raised the trash fence that encircles the city. Survey crews are busy mapping camp locations. And the Man Pavilion is beginning to take shape. We are endlessly grateful to the desert crews working hard to build the foundational infrastructure for Black Rock City. Meanwhile, momentum is building around the world. There are spreadsheets to check, schedules to sync, journeys to make... and oh, SO many things to pack! Beyond the desert, Black Rock City and the Burning Man global cultural movement serve as beacons of inspiration, illuminating the path towards a more creative, connected world. Let's do this! YOU are invited. Tickets are still available for Black Rock City 2024. No more procrastinating! There's an August 14 deadline to score your Burner Express Bus ticket. We've got storytelling and photography from Fence Day and Golden Spike. And yes, San Francisco's Decompression is right around the corner; they're calling for camps, performers, artists, volunteers and more. If you are in the Bay Area, keep scrolling for an opportunity to buy locally-made playa gear — and BRC tickets — in person! Embrace Immediacy — Buy a Ticket to Burning Man If receiving this newsletter gives you FOMO for those wild and free, dusty times, we have exciting news. You can still buy a ticket to Black Rock City 2024 — and invite three of your friends along for the adventure. We've also re-opened the Ticket Aid Program, which offers $225 tickets to participants who are on a limited income. (Photo by Rick Egan) Get Your Burner Express Bus Tickets Before the August 14th Deadline Still trying to figure out how you're getting to or from Black Rock City? The Burner Express Bus (BxB) is a fast and efficient option. Skip the line and hop on the bus! Buses leave from and return to Reno and the Bay Area. Don't delay! We will stop selling BxB tickets on Wednesday, August 14th at 6pm PT / 9pm ET / 3am CET. The 14th will also be the last day to exchange your BxB ticket for a different day or time. We may release a limited number of tickets for specific days and times on Saturday, August 16th at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 9pm CET. If you want to confirm your ride, don’t delay! Watch the “Mutants of Black Rock” Documentary by Profiles in Dust Behind every mutant vehicle in Black Rock City is a wild idea, supported by creativity, grit and innovation. Experience the wacky universe of Burning Man's art car builders in the latest documentary from our friends at Profiles in Dust, a volunteer crew of documentary filmmakers who capture stories from the dusty metropolis. Take a Ride on the Playa with Mutant Vehicle Transport Program It can be challenging to find a mutant vehicle on playa at just the right time to take you for a wild ride. Mutant Vehicle Transport Program (MVT) aims to make it a little easier for you to get on board (and shake that dusty booty). From Monday to Friday during Burn Week, take a seat at one of the shaded MVT stops located throughout BRC. A mutant vehicle just may pull up and take you on a journey to realms unknown. In a world that seems relentless in trying to tear itself apart, we choose instead to come together, and to work together to make our dreams real. Powered by kindness and generosity, fueled by love. We do this because we can, and for some of us because we must." (Photo by Joe Schottman) Black Rock City Rises — See Photos from Fence Day Recap from last Friday: fence day! Many hands came together to install the 9.2-mile-long trash fence that encircles Black Rock City. With high spirits, starting at 5am dozens of people pounded stakes and strung fences, ensuring a clean perimeter. (Photo by Nick Cahill) Donate to Burning Man Project It is necessary to create. And this is what humans do and do very well. Society at the moment is convincing people that only professional singers can sing. Only professional actors can act. Only professionals can make art, music and so forth. But these are all human abilities. Burning Man gives that a chance to happen… You find that you are more capable than you thought you were. Black Rock City 2024 will come to life thanks to YOU! In addition to collaborating with the community to build Black Rock City, the Burning Man Project nonprofit nurtures a year-round global network of people inspired by the values reflected in the 10 Principles and united in pursuit of a more creative and connected existence. The Innovate Community is a distributed crew of volunteer software developers who build free and accessible apps that help people connect, share experiences and navigate Black Rock City, all while honoring the principle of Immediacy. These are unofficial apps not created by Burning Man Project. All serve as amazing tools for navigating BRC without an internet connection.
