Editor's Take
There's something really refreshing about a brand that actually walks the talk when it comes to sustainability. Burt's Bees Baby launched back in 2012 with one simple mission: making organic cotton baby clothes accessible without breaking the bank. And honestly? They've pretty much nailed it.
What sets them apart isn't just the organic cotton thing-though that 100% GOTS-certified material is seriously soft. It's how they've managed to create this whole ecosystem around "the purest layer" philosophy. Every piece of clothing, from their famous pajamas to those tiny onesies, gets designed with this idea that babies deserve the gentlest possible start in life.
The numbers tell the story here. Since 2012, they've helped shift the entire industry toward more sustainable practices. Their organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, or flame retardants-stuff that traditional cotton farming relies on heavily. Plus, their manufacturing process uses non-toxic, PVC-free, and heavy metal-free dyes.
But here's what really impressed me: they've figured out the pricing puzzle. Premium organic baby clothes usually cost a fortune, but Burt's Bees Baby somehow delivers that quality at surprisingly reasonable prices. Take their signature pajamas-they start around $12 and go up to maybe $25 for the fancier designs. That's honestly pretty amazing when you consider the competition.
The brand operates under Ayablu Inc. and has grown into this $7 million operation with about 42 employees. They're based in Fairfield, Connecticut, but their reach extends way beyond that through their online store and retail partnerships with places like Target and Amazon.
What's kind of cool is how they've built this whole community around their brand. They call their customers part of their "hive" and regularly feature real families on their social media. Their Instagram (@burtsbeesbaby) showcases actual babies wearing their clothes, not just staged product shots.
And speaking of products, their range has expanded way beyond basic baby clothes. They now offer everything from crib sheets and wearable blankets to skincare products. The Beekeeper wearable blanket has become particularly popular with parents looking for safe sleep solutions.
The company also takes their environmental responsibility seriously through various giveback initiatives. They donate products globally, volunteer for shore cleanups, and work on urban farms-basically trying to preserve those natural gifts that inspire their bee-themed branding.
