The Sanctuary Park Tour

They refer to themselves, perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek, as a band from Minnesota, but this genre-bending, alternative-country-roots-rock act is (obviously) so much more.

Though they'd been playing together since the mid-80s, they burst onto the scene in 1995 with the hit song BLUE, featuring the layered instrumentation and lush harmonies that would come to define their style (seriously, the harmonies on this song!). The Jayhawks sound is the best kind of familiar: a comfortable, vintage warmth with a slightly gritty edge that's uniquely their own.

They're touring in support of a new album, Sanctuary Park, and you can check out a single from it HERE. Don't miss the opportunity to see what a band from Minnesota can do.

Scheherazade: 1001 Nights

Inspired by the folk tales of One Thousand and One Nights, Scheherazade draws you in with sensuous violin solos, sweeping cinematic climaxes, and dramatic surges of the full orchestra. Paired with Ginastera’s Variaciones Concertantes - featuring major solors for clarinet, oboe, bassoon, cello, and bass.

An American Celebration: John Williams Escapades

The MIM Orchestra performs a jazz-inflected John Williams piece from Catch Me If You Can, showcasing vibraphonist Michael Downing and saxophonist Jonathan Hultina-Cohen, plus the world premiere of a new work by local composer Jerry Grant.

The Ripple Effect

Ripple Effect: Art + Music + Psychedelia is open now in the Granucci Gallery at The Center for the Arts, and it runs through August 2.

The exhibition brings together 18 artists across paintings, posters, and new work -- tracing the visual and cultural legacy of psychedelia from its countercultural origins to where the genre is headed today. Original Grateful Dead album artwork and rare vintage concert posters sit alongside bold new pieces by Jen Stark, Ralph Steadman, Roger Dean, and the Rick Griffin Estate, all assembled in collaboration with The Chambers Project, widely regarded as one of the world's leading psychedelic art galleries.
