Returns

What is the return window?
Carbon38 offers returns within 30 days of purchase. Items purchased between 11/15/2023 - 12/25/2024 can be returned through 1/31/2024 as part of their extended holiday return policy.

Are there any items that are non-returnable?
All items are returnable, except for the following: Items marked final sale, gloves and arm warmers, socks and leg warmers, headbands, water bottles, lingerie, and hair ties. Swimwear should be tried on over underwear for sanitary reasons and must have a protective hygiene strip intact. All items must be unworn with the original tags attached.

How will I receive my refund?
If you choose to return for a gift card, your credit will be available in your Carbon38 account for immediate use as soon as the return is processed. If you choose to return for a full refund, you can expect the refund to be received by your bank or credit card account within 3-5 business days. Processing times vary and are subject to your bank. All refunds made on purchases paid with both gift card and credit card will be refunded as such in the same amount that was paid on each payment type. Once your return has been shipped back to us, please allow up to 5-10 business days for the return to be processed at our distribution center.

Who pays for return shipping?
Returns via Happy Returns locations are free with refund initiated immediately upon drop-off. For mail returns, there is a cost of $6.99 for a UPS return label. International returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase for a flat rate of $15, and original shipping fees, duty paid or any other associated costs are non-refundable.

How do I start a return online?
You can start your return by entering your order number and your zip code. Order number can be found in the order confirmation email we sent you, or by logging into your Carbon38 account and visiting the My Account page. Once you are done adding items, choose how you want to return your item(s): Return in-person with Happy Returns where refund/exchange is initiated immediately upon drop-off, or return via mail.

Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Carbon38-it's basically what happens when someone finally figured out that activewear doesn't have to look like you just rolled out of a 6 AM spin class. Founded by Katie Warner Johnson (a former professional ballerina turned celebrity trainer, because of course), the brand launched back in 2012 with this pretty simple but kind of revolutionary idea: women want workout clothes that actually look good outside the gym.

And honestly? They nailed it. Carbon38 sits in this interesting sweet spot between Lululemon's technical performance and something you'd see on a fashion runway. They curate collections from global activewear brands while also designing their own proprietary label, which means you're getting both the cult favorites and exclusive pieces you won't find anywhere else. Think leggings that work for pilates but also for, like, running errands or meeting friends for coffee.

What's interesting is how they've evolved. Started as pure e-commerce, but then opened two physical stores-one in Pacific Palisades and another in Bridgehampton-because sometimes you really do need to feel that fabric before dropping $150 on leggings. The stores aren't just retail spaces either; they're designed with flattering lighting (bless), coffee bars, and they host fitness classes and community events. Very LA-meets-Hamptons energy.

The brand carries over 80 designers, from household names like Nike and Adidas by Stella McCartney to smaller labels you've probably never heard of but will immediately want to know about. Their Takara leggings have developed something of a cult following-people genuinely stop strangers on the street to ask about them. And with free shipping on orders over $199, plus a pretty generous 30-day return policy, they've made the online shopping experience less of a gamble.

But here's what really sets them apart: they're not just focused on gym performance-they're curators, collaborators, and creators of clothing designed to enhance your performance in life. Whether that's an actual workout or just looking put-together while working from home is entirely up to you. In 2024, the company was acquired by BC Brands, which suggests they're doing something right in the increasingly crowded athleisure space.

If you're tired of choosing between fashion and function, Carbon38 is basically saying you don't have to. And in a world where we're all living in leggings anyway, that's kind of a big deal.
