Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Charles & Colvard-they're basically the OG of moissanite. Like, they literally invented the whole lab-created moissanite jewelry game back in 1995, which is kind of a big deal when you think about it. Before them, if you wanted something sparkly that wasn't a mined diamond, you were pretty much out of luck.

What makes them interesting is they're not just riding on that legacy. They've spent nearly 30 years perfecting their Forever One moissanite, which they proudly grow right here in the USA. And the specs are legitimately impressive-these stones have more fire and brilliance than most diamonds, they're second only to diamonds in hardness (9.25 on the Mohs scale), and they come with a lifetime warranty. That's the kind of confidence you get when you've been doing this longer than anyone else.

But they didn't stop there. A few years back, they added Caydia lab-grown diamonds to their lineup, so now you've got options. Want moissanite? They've got the best. Want lab diamonds? They've got those too. Everything's set in recycled precious metals-they're at about 99% recycled gold and platinum, which honestly feels like the direction the whole industry should be heading.

The pricing is where it gets interesting. A 2-carat Forever One moissanite engagement ring might run you around $1,500 to $3,000, depending on the setting. Compare that to a similar diamond ring that could easily hit $15,000 or more. You're getting something that looks virtually identical to the naked eye, lasts forever, and doesn't come with the ethical baggage of mining. Notice how they lean hard into that "Made, not Mined" tagline? It's not just marketing-it actually resonates with people who care about where their stuff comes from.

They opened a physical showroom in Morrisville, North Carolina in 2022, which was a smart move. There's something about seeing moissanite in person that makes believers out of skeptics. The way it catches light is different from diamonds-more rainbow flashes, more drama. Some people love that; some prefer the subtler sparkle of diamonds. But you can't really know which camp you're in until you see it yourself.

Their return policy is solid-30 days, free returns, no questions asked. And they offer military and healthcare worker discounts, which is a nice touch. Customer service seems responsive based on what I've seen, though like any company, they have their occasional hiccups.

The real question is whether moissanite is right for you. If you want the traditional prestige of a diamond, maybe not. But if you want something that's visually stunning, ethically sound, and won't drain your bank account? Charles & Colvard basically wrote the book on that. They're not perfect, but they're the standard everyone else is chasing.
