Chicago Fire FC has signed defender Jonathan Dean, goalkeeper Jeff Gal, and winger Chris Mueller to new contracts, strengthening the Club’s veteran core for the coming seasons. Dean, 28, is under contract through 2027 with an option for 2028, Gal, 32, through 2026 with an option for 2027, and Mueller, 29, through 2026 with an option for 2027. Goalkeeper Chris Brady and midfielders Sergio Oregel Jr. and Mauricio Pineda have signed new contracts with Chicago Fire FC, reinforcing the Club’s commitment to developing and retaining top local talent. Chicago Fire FC defender Joel Waterman has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 35 after scoring his first goal for the Fire in a 3-0 road win over Minnesota United FC. The Canadian international opened the scoring in the 26th minute, securing the eventual game-winner and earning his first league honor with Chicago. Chicago Fire FC has introduced a new Academy model that replaces one-year registrations with three-year commitments, giving young players greater stability and support in their development. Starting in 2025–26, U-13 players will be registered through their U-15 season, with another three-year term available at the senior level. This long-term approach reduces the pressure of annual renewals, aligns with key growth stages, and reflects the Club’s mission to nurture both players and people.
