Winger Philip Zinckernagel Selected to MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 10

Chicago Fire FC winger Philip Zinckernagel was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 10 following his three goal contributions in Saturday’s 5-0 victory against Sporting Kansas City at Soldier Field. Forward Hugo Cuypers was also named to the Team of the Matchday bench after scoring in a Fire-record sixth straight match.

The Danish winger earned his first appearance on the MLS Team of the Matchday in 2026 after recording his first multi-goal scoring appearance with the Fire. After a quiet first half, Zinckernagel opened the scoring in the 51st minute against Sporting KC when he pounced on the rebound for his third goal of 2026. He later sparked a series of touches between Robin Lod and Maren Haile-Selassie that found his feet, before taking out a defender with a deft touch that set him up for goal number two.

Chicago Fire FC forward Hugo Cuypers was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday bench for Matchday 8 following his two-goal performance in the 3-3 draw against FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium.

The Belgian striker earned his second appearance on the MLS Team of the Matchday in 2026 after tying the Fire record for most consecutive games with a goal, tallying his fifth and sixth of the season against Cincinnati. In the 26th minute, winger Philip Zinckernagel sent a cross to the top of the box, where Cuypers touched the ball into the air and sent a half volley toward goal that bounced under goalkeeper Roman Celentano and into the net. Three minutes into the second half, defender Andrew Gutman sent a ball across the box that was headed up before falling in front of Cuypers, who pounced on the rebound and tucked the ball into the lower left corner.

U.S. Soccer and Chicago Fire FC announced that the Club will host St. Louis CITY SC in the Round of 16 of the 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT on Wednesday, April 29, at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Ill.

Chicago advanced to the Round of 16 with a 2-1 win against USL Championship side Detroit City FC at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, Mich. Forward Jason Shokalook scored twice in the span of two minutes in his first start for the Men in Red, who defeated Detroit for the second year in a row in the Round of 32 of the competition.

Defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi Selected to MLS Team of the Matchday Bench for Matchday 7

Chicago Fire FC defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday Bench for Matchday 7 following the team’s fourth shutout of the season in the 1-0 victory against Atlanta United FC at Soldier Field.

Mbokazi’s Team of the Matchday mention is the first of his career and comes after the team earned a second consecutive shutout at home in which he made a goal-line clearance to keep the score at zero. The goal-line save and overall outstanding defensive performance also earned the defender Xerox Man of the Match honors.

Chicago Fire FC is inviting fans back to Soldier Field for its Summer Concert Series presented by Café Bustelo, which will feature hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco and DJ duo Two Friends during an iconic summer for the global game.

The concerts will take place following two marquee matches that bookend the FIFA World Cup 2026. On Saturday, May 23, Grammy Award-winning artist Lupe Fiasco will headline a concert following the Fire’s match against Toronto FC, marking the Club’s final match before the league pauses for the World Cup. On Wednesday, July 16, viral electronic music sensation Two Friends will perform following a special “Homecoming Night” as the Men in Red host 2025 Western Conference champion Vancouver Whitecaps – just days before the World Cup Final.
