Returns
What is the return window?
Clean Origin offers a 60-day return policy, allowing you plenty of time to ensure everything is just right. If you decide to return your purchase for any reason, simply send it back within 60 days along with the diamond certificate (if applicable), and we'll provide you with either a full refund or an exchange, whichever you prefer.
Who pays for return shipping?
Clean Origin covers the cost of return shipping for all product returns by providing a pre-paid shipping label along with clear instructions on how to prepare your return. Free return shipping labels are only available in the United States at this time.
Are there any items that are non-returnable?
Custom orders may only be returned for store credit. Upon receipt of your custom item within the 60-day return period, we will issue a store credit to your Clean Origin account. Your store credit never expires and can be applied toward any future purchase. If you choose to apply your store credit toward a new custom piece, this is considered a one-time re-design. Redesigned custom pieces are also considered final sale.
How do I start a return online?
In order to return your order, contact us at [email protected] and we will provide the paperwork, instructions, and free return shipping label within 48 hours, via email.
What if I received a damaged or incorrect item?
If you believe your item has a manufacturing defect, please email us with your order number, clear images of the jewelry and the area of concern, and any helpful details about how or when the issue was noticed. Our team will review the images and information provided to assess whether the issue may fall under our manufacturing warranty. If your jewelry is damaged due to a manufacturing defect, we will provide a prepaid insured shipping label and necessary paperwork so you can send the jewelry to us for repair at no cost to you.
Editor's Take
So here's the thing about Clean Origin - they're basically disrupting the whole diamond industry, and honestly, it's kind of brilliant. Founded in 2017 by third-generation jewelry veterans who'd seen it all, they decided to go all-in on lab-grown diamonds when most people were still skeptical about the whole concept.
What makes them interesting isn't just that they sell lab-grown diamonds (plenty of companies do that now). It's how they've positioned themselves as the ethical alternative without the typical markup you'd expect from traditional jewelers. We're talking diamonds that are chemically identical to mined ones - same sparkle, same hardness, same everything - but at prices that don't require taking out a second mortgage.
The company's grown from purely online to having showrooms scattered across major metros like Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and DC. And get this - they've got over 65,000 diamonds in their inventory and more than 1,600 engagement ring options. That's a lot of choice for someone who's already stressed about popping the question.
But here's where it gets real: their 60-day return policy is one of the longest in the industry. They cover return shipping (at least in the US), and they're pretty transparent about the whole process. Notice how most traditional jewelers make returns feel like you're committing some kind of crime? Clean Origin basically says "no questions asked" - though there are some limitations on custom pieces and resized items, which makes sense.
The lab-grown angle isn't just marketing fluff either. These diamonds use significantly less water and energy than mining, create zero land disturbance, and you don't have to worry about conflict diamonds. For millennials and Gen Z buyers who actually care about where their stuff comes from, that's huge.
They've also raised $20 million from Titan Company Limited, an Indian luxury conglomerate, which tells you institutional investors think this lab-grown thing has legs. And in 2024, Grown Brilliance acquired Clean Origin's assets, so the brand's evolving but still operating under its own name.
The customer service seems solid based on reviews - they've got jewelry experts available via phone, email, and apparently chat. Response times are quick, and they're not trying to upsell you on stuff you don't need. That's refreshing in an industry known for pushy sales tactics.
One thing worth mentioning: while they offer customization, some of the really intricate custom work is online-only. So if you're planning something super specific, you might not get the full hands-on experience at their showrooms. But for most people buying engagement rings or diamond jewelry, they've got you covered both online and in-person.
