Here Comes the Fall
September is almost here, and with it comes the fall. Time for layers and spiced cider and colorful leaves. Fall is my favorite time of year. There's something exceptionally cozy about it.
Fall brings with it more stitching & crafting time as well, at least for me. The kids are off to school, and vacations tend to be winding up. The weather starts to cool, and having a lap full of yarn sounds like a good way to spend an evening.
Aside from the extra stitching time, some of my favorite things about fall are hot spiced cider with caramel, not feeling like I may turn into a puddle at any moment, and the joy my husband gets from football season. What are your fall favs?
Here are some free recipes for making your own caramel spiced cider:
- Hot Spiced Caramel Apple Cider - Super-easy and can be made with apple juice if you can't find cider.
- Spiced Caramel Apple Cider - This one is made with apples, it cooks for 4 hours, but is still pretty easy!
- “Better than Starbucks” Caramel Apple Cider Recipe - I love all the spices in this one!
- Spiced Caramel Apple Cider - This is most like what I usually do, only I have my own "fall pie spice" mix I use, and I also add in a sliced orange.
More Fall Fun!
Some of you may be enjoying the colors of fall at the NY Sheep & Wool Festival, AKA, Rhinebeck. I'll be there with a dear friend of mine from undergrad, Sara. For those of you who are knitting (yes, only knit) a Rhinebeck sweater to wear to Rhinebeck this year, Sara has a fun opportunity for you:
"University of Minnesota researchers (and fellow knitters) Sara Wilcox and Elizabeth Bye are conducting a study on the lived experience of people knitting Rhinebeck sweaters for the 2025 NY State Sheep and Wool Festival. The study is mostly full, but we would still like to hear from people of color, people ages 18-30, and male or nonbinary people about their experiences to make sure a broad range of perspectives are represented. Participation includes an initial Zoom interview, monthly check-ins, shadowing at the Rhinebeck festival, and a follow up interview. Participants will receive $100 in Visa gift cards in recognition of their time. For more information or to express your interest in participating, please email Sara Wilcox at [email protected]."
If you participate, let me know, I'd love to get a photo of you at Rhinebeck to share with the rest of the Jessie At Home / Crochet Foundry Community!
