As heat waves move across much of the USA, please be sure to stay safe and well hydrated. If your home is not cool enough, there are many free ways to stay cool, such as browsing your local library (check out their crafting section), hanging out with friends who have better air conditioning than you, community centers, and places like The Boys & Girls Club. If you're unsure what's available in your area, your can usually call your local police station to get some suggestions.
Now, as for crafting in a heat wave, I suggest keeping away from crafts that require heat, and keeping yarn and fabric crafts to small items. If you're working with paper, remember that high humidity can make paper damp and difficult to work with.
Crafts that require water can be fun. Crafting WITH paper may be out in high humidity, but MAKING paper requires water and is lots of fun. I'm also fond of basket weaving - you can even put on a bathing suit and sit in a cool tub to keep yourself and your reeds wet. This could also be a good time to finally learn how to ice-dye some fabric or yarn.
Let me know what crafts you find to be the best on hot days.
