Returns
What is the return window?
Dick's Sporting Goods's return policy allows customers to return most items within 90 days of purchase, with some exceptions for specific categories. This gives you plenty of time to try out your gear and make sure it works for you.
Do I need a receipt to return an item?
Returns with valid proof of purchase will receive a refund based on the initial form of payment, such as the credit card used for the purchase. "Valid Proof(s) of Purchase" include the order number, order confirmation email, original sales receipt, pack slip, or return barcode. Returns without a Valid Proof of Purchase must be returned using a valid ID and will receive a store credit for the lowest selling price.
Are there any items that are non-returnable?
The following items cannot be returned: Firearms, Ammunition, Hunting Bows, Crossbows, Gun Powders, Primers, Rifles/Muzzleloaders, Items Requiring Gasoline or Fuel, Used Bikes, Airbeds, Custom and Special Order Items, Autographed Collectibles and Memorabilia and Gift Cards. The following items cannot be returned if the package is opened or the factory seal is broken: Baseball/Softball Bats, Football Helmets, Air Beds, Electronic Scooters and Bikes, Face Coverings, and Portable Lavatories.
How will I receive my refund?
If you paid for your order with a gift card or e-gift card, the return will be refunded back to the original gift card or e-gift card you used. If you no longer have this gift card or e-gift card, please contact our Customer Service department at 1-877-846-9997. We will send you a new gift card in the amount of your refund. For other payment methods, refunds are issued to the original form of payment.
Can I return online purchases in-store?

So here's the thing about Dick's Sporting Goods-it's basically become the default answer when someone asks "where should I get [insert any sports thing here]?" And honestly? That didn't happen by accident.
The whole operation started back in 1948 when an 18-year-old named Dick Stack borrowed $300 from his grandmother after getting fired from an Army surplus store. Classic origin story, right? But what's wild is how they've evolved from that single fishing tackle shop in Binghamton, New York, into the largest sporting goods retailer in the United States. We're talking over 800 stores scattered across the country.
Walk into any Dick's and you'll notice something-they've got this weird ability to feel both massive and manageable at the same time. Like, you can find everything from a $15 yoga mat to a $3,000 Peloton bike, plus they stock all the brands people actually want: Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, The North Face, HOKA. They're not messing around with off-brand stuff nobody's heard of.
But here's where it gets interesting. The company's subsidiaries include Golf Galaxy, Public Lands, and House of Sport, so they're not just sitting still. Those House of Sport locations? They're basically Dick's on steroids-bigger stores with climbing walls, batting cages, and outdoor turf fields. It's like they looked at the traditional sporting goods store and said "what if we made this an actual experience?"
And they've been making some pretty bold moves lately. In May 2025, Dick's Sporting Goods announced its acquisition of Foot Locker, Inc. The acquisition was finalized in September 2025. That's a massive play in the athletic footwear space.
The loyalty program is worth mentioning too. Earn One Point for Every $1 and get a $10 Reward for Every 300 Points-pretty straightforward math, and they actually make it easy to track through their app. Plus they've got this whole ScoreRewards credit card thing if you're really committed to the ecosystem.
One thing that sets them apart? Their commitment to youth sports. In 2014, the Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation committed up to $2 million annually to fund youth sports via its Sports Matter program. Since its inception, Sports Matter has pledged more than $100 million. That's not just marketing fluff-they're actually putting serious money into getting kids access to sports equipment and programs.
The shopping experience itself is pretty seamless. You can buy online and pick up in-store (usually ready within an hour), return stuff to any location nationwide, and they've got this Best Price Guarantee thing where they'll match lower prices. Their return policy is generous too-90 days for most items, which is better than a lot of competitors.
Look, Dick's isn't perfect. Sometimes the stores can feel a bit overwhelming with the sheer amount of inventory, and during peak seasons (back-to-school, holidays) good luck finding someone to help you immediately. But they've basically figured out the formula for being the one-stop shop for anyone who plays sports, watches sports, or just likes wearing athletic clothes to brunch.
