So here's the thing about DIY Pest Control-they're basically the granddaddy of doing your own bug warfare. Started way back in 1959 when Tom Cline began supplying pest control companies, then went retail in 1982, and honestly? They've been quietly revolutionizing how regular folks handle their pest problems ever since.
What makes them different isn't just that customers save up to 70% versus hiring an exterminator-though that's pretty compelling when you're staring at a $300+ annual pest control bill. It's that they employ expertly trained pest control technicians to advise you, with seven technicians available including one Spanish-speaking specialist. You're not just buying products; you're getting actual professional guidance.
And the product selection? It's legit professional-grade stuff. The average cost to hire an exterminator for a general spray treatment is about $70 per application, but you can buy a bottle of Talstar or Bifen IT and do it yourself for around $4 per application. That's not just savings-that's transformative for anyone dealing with ongoing pest issues.
The family aspect runs deep here too. Walt Cline and his father founded the company, brought on his sister Cindy Lord as Managing Partner, and now Walt's kids Fletcher and Scotti work there. Even Walt's retired educator wife Sherri comes in regularly as "the office mom." There's something refreshingly authentic about a pest control company where the owner jokes about his wife keeping him in line.
But here's what really caught my attention: they were one of the first to go online in 1996 with www.doyourownpestcontrol.com, making them the original online pest control supply company to homeowners. They saw the internet's potential for education and empowerment before most companies even had websites.
The logistics are smart too-shipping from both Georgia and Arizona warehouses for faster delivery nationwide. And their approach isn't about pushing expensive solutions. As Walt puts it: "We don't push products that we don't truly think people need. People are generally pretty unhappy when they have a pest problem, so we do our best to make them feel better about the situation and reassure them that it can be fixed."
That philosophy shows in their educational resources too. They provide information on insect identification, control instructions, rodent identification, control measures, professional equipment, and professional strength insecticides and herbicides. It's not just about selling products-it's about actually solving problems.
