Editor's Take
So here's the thing about Eagle Creek-they've been around since 1975, which in the travel gear world basically makes them ancient. But not in a dusty, forgotten way. More like that friend who's been everywhere and actually remembers what worked.
For nearly 50 years, Eagle Creek has been committed to equipping travelers with the most responsibly-designed, durably-built, functionally superior adventure travel bags, luggage, packs, organizers, and gear. And honestly? They kind of invented the whole packing cube thing before everyone else jumped on board.
What's interesting is their story. Eagle Creek was founded in 1975 by Steve and Nona Barker in the San Jacinto Mountains of California, where they ran a retail store called Mountain People selling custom mountain packs. They started small-really small-and eventually got big enough that VF Corporation bought them in 2007. Then came the plot twist: in 2021, VF decided to retire the brand. But instead of letting it die, the former president of emerging brands of VF Corporation, Travis Campbell, would acquire the Eagle Creek brand. The sale includes all Eagle Creek assets and liabilities.
Campbell moved the whole operation to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, which feels right for a company that's all about adventure. And they're not just making stuff-they're thinking about it. From community partnerships to sustainable materials and solutions designed to last a lifetime, we're on a mission to unlock new ways to positively impact the cultures, environments and planet for future generations to discover.
Their signature thing? The No Matter What Warranty. Our No Matter What® warranty has become a keystone promise for our community of travelers. It's basically their way of saying
The product line is extensive. They've got everything from carry-on luggage to those compression packing cubes that somehow make your suitcase hold twice as much. Their Cargo Hauler duffels are kind of legendary among frequent travelers, and the Pack-It system has spawned about a million imitators. But Eagle Creek was first, and they're still refining the concept.
What sets them apart isn't just durability-though their return rate is less than 1%, which is pretty remarkable. It's that they actually think about how people travel. Like, they put compression straps where you need them, not just where they look good. They design bags that convert from backpack to roller because sometimes you need both. They make packing cubes in sizes that actually fit real suitcases.
They're also pushing sustainability harder than most. Many of their products now use recycled fabrics, and they're working on reducing waste in manufacturing. It's not just greenwashing-they're actually redesigning products to be more environmentally responsible while maintaining that
The company sells through their website and various retailers, but they don't have physical stores. They're focused on making gear, not running retail locations. Which makes sense-their customers are the type who'd rather be traveling than shopping anyway.
One thing worth noting: they're not the cheapest option out there. But when you factor in that warranty and the fact that their stuff genuinely lasts for years (sometimes decades), the math starts to work differently. It's the kind of purchase where you pay once and forget about it, rather than replacing cheap luggage every few trips.
