You know what's kind of genius? Taking something as simple as fruit and turning it into a whole gifting empire. That's basically what Edible Arrangements did, and honestly, they nailed a gap nobody else was really thinking about.

So here's the thing. The company was founded by Tariq Farid and Kamran Farid, and the first Edible Arrangements store opened in East Haven, Connecticut in 1999. After designing the computer systems, training manuals, production and profitability tracking and supply chain management process, they began franchising the concept in 2001. The brothers came from the floral industry, which makes total sense when you see their arrangements-they're basically fruit bouquets designed like flowers, but way more practical because, well, you can eat them.

That's not just expansion-that's domination of a category they basically invented.

The product lineup is pretty clever too. The company also sells a variety of specialty fruit gift items, such as gift boxes featuring chocolate dipped fruit and fresh fruit products and other products like fresh fruit cups, fresh fruit smoothies, chocolate dipped fruit cones, flower bouquets, dessert boards, chocolate dipped fruit platters, cookies, and cupcakes. They've evolved way beyond just the signature fruit arrangements into a full gifting and treat destination.

But here's where it gets interesting-they're not just sitting still. Edible Arrangements moved its corporate headquarters from Wallingford, Connecticut to the Atlanta, Georgia area in 2018. Strategic moves like that show they're constantly thinking about growth and positioning.

The franchise model is what really scaled them. Instead of trying to own every location, they empowered entrepreneurs to run their own stores with proven systems. Edible Arrangements was ranked number 40 on Entrepreneur magazine's 2013 Entrepreneur Franchise 500 and has appeared on the magazine's list of Top Global Franchises and Fastest-Growing Franchises for five consecutive years. It was also ranked first in category in the Franchise 500 in the years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. Those aren't just participation trophies-that's consistent excellence in franchising.

What makes them stand out is the "WOW" factor they talk about constantly. Every arrangement is hand-crafted, using fresh fruit that's carefully selected. They've even gotten into the health-conscious space with their smoothie offerings, which is smart positioning.
