Homemade Pizza Dough
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 3 ½ cups White Mill plain flour
- 2 tbsp The Olive Tree olive oil
- 2 tsp dried yeast
- 2 tbsp saltMethod
- Place the flour, yeast and salt into a large bowl and mix well.
- Make a well in the centre of the flour, yeast and salt mixture, then add the water and olive oil. The water needs to be warm to activate the yeast and encourage it to grow. If the water is too hot it can kill the yeast. Use a wooden spoon to stir until combined and then use your hands to bring the dough together in the bowl. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky.
- Move the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 3 minutes or until the dough is almost smooth. If the dough seems a little too wet then sprinkle a bit more flour.
- Place the ball of dough in a bowl that has been coated lightly with olive oil. Turn the dough around in the bowl so that it gets coated with the oil. Cover with plastic wrap and let it sit in a warm place (ideally 30°C) until it doubles in size (approx. 1 - 1.5 hours).
Homemade Pizza Base Sauce
Ingredients
- 400g can of Remano diced tomatoes
- 1 tbsp The Olive Tree olive oil
- ½ tsp Merryvale sugar
- 1 garlic clove crushed
- Salt and black pepper to tasteMethod
- Place the undrained diced tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and sugar in a medium frying pan and bring to the boil over high heat.
- Boil uncovered for 8-10 minutes or until the sauce is thick. Season well with salt and pepper.
- Transfer to a bowl and allow it to cool. Your sauce is now ready to use on your pizza base.
