So here's the thing about FENDI-it's basically fashion royalty that's been quietly ruling from Rome since 1925. And when I say quietly, I mean with the kind of understated confidence that only comes from nearly a century of making ridiculously beautiful things.
The brand started as this tiny fur and leather shop run by Adele and Edoardo Fendi, but then Karl Lagerfeld showed up in 1965 and everything changed. He created that iconic double-F logo we all recognize, and suddenly FENDI wasn't just another Italian leather goods company-it was a global phenomenon. The man worked with them for over 50 years until his death, which tells you something about the creative chemistry there.
But here's what's really fascinating: FENDI manages to be both deeply traditional and completely modern at the same time. They're still doing incredible fur work (controversial as that is these days), but they're also the brand that gave us the Baguette bag-you know, the one Carrie Bradshaw obsessed over in Sex and the City. That bag alone generated something like $10 million in sales and became this cultural touchstone.
The company's headquarters situation is pretty incredible too. They moved into this massive marble building in Rome called the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana-locals call it the "Square Colosseum"-and they're paying 2.8 million euros a year just to rent it. It's this imposing fascist-era building with 216 identical arches, and somehow FENDI made it work as their global headquarters. Only they could take a piece of controversial architecture and turn it into a symbol of luxury fashion.
What's interesting is how they've navigated ownership changes while maintaining their identity. LVMH bought them in 2001, but FENDI still feels distinctly Roman, distinctly Italian. They're not trying to be Parisian or New York slick-they're embracing that particular kind of Italian craftsmanship that values both innovation and tradition.
And speaking of innovation, they're surprisingly good at digital marketing for a luxury brand. They were early adopters of TikTok, partnering with Sabrina Carpenter for their launch on the platform. They understand that luxury doesn't mean being stuffy or inaccessible-it means being excellent at what you do while staying relevant to new generations.
The brand generates billions in revenue annually as part of LVMH's fashion division, but what's remarkable is how they've maintained their reputation for craftsmanship. Each piece still goes through this incredibly detailed production process, whether it's their leather goods, ready-to-wear, or accessories. They're not cutting corners to chase fast fashion trends.
