Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Franco Sarto-it's one of those brands that kind of flies under the radar, but once you know, you know. The story starts in Venice, where a 14-year-old kid named Franco Sarto began hammering away at shoes in a cobbler's workshop. Fast forward a few decades, and that same craftsmanship ethos is still baked into every pair they make, except now they're shipping worldwide and sitting pretty in department stores from Nordstrom to Macy's.

What makes Franco Sarto interesting is this balance they've struck. They're not trying to be Louboutin with those eye-watering price tags, but they're also not churning out disposable fast-fashion footwear. Most of their shoes hover somewhere between $100 and $200, which-let's be honest-is that sweet spot where you're getting Italian-inspired design without needing to take out a small loan. And people notice. The brand's got over 73,000 Instagram followers who genuinely seem to love posting their Mary Janes and loafers.

The product lineup is pretty straightforward: boots, booties, sandals, flats, heels, wedges, loafers. But it's the details that set them apart-the way they think about a heel shape, the leather they choose, the fact that their Tinsley Mary Jane has basically become a cult favorite on TikTok. They've got this design philosophy about "timelessness" that actually seems to hold up. Some of their styles have been selling for over a decade, which in the fashion world is basically forever.

Here's what's clever: Franco Sarto is owned by Caleres, this massive footwear conglomerate that also owns Famous Footwear, Sam Edelman, Naturalizer, and a bunch of other brands. That means they've got serious infrastructure-manufacturing connections, distribution networks, the whole nine yards-but they've managed to keep the brand feeling relatively boutique. Their Creative Director, Gionata Pagni, keeps things focused on what they call "intentional design," which basically means every element serves a purpose.

The shopping experience is pretty modern. Free shipping on orders over $89, a 45-day return window, and they've partnered with Happy Returns so you can drop off returns at over 2,600 locations instead of dealing with the post office. They're also constantly running sales-like, right now there's probably something 30-40% off if you check their site.

One thing that stands out in customer reviews is comfort. People keep saying "Your shoes are so comfortable!" which for a fashion-forward brand is kind of the holy grail. It goes back to that cobbler foundation-Franco Sarto understood shoe construction from the ground up, literally, so the shoes actually work for real life, not just runway walks.

The brand's also pretty savvy about staying relevant. They're all over social media, collaborating with influencers, showing how to style their pieces five different ways. Their fall collection always leans into trends-animal prints, metallics, western vibes-but in a way that doesn't feel desperate or try-hard.

Franco Sarto occupies this interesting middle ground between accessible and aspirational. They're for women who want well-made, stylish shoes that won't destroy their feet or their bank account. And in a market that's increasingly polarized between ultra-luxury and ultra-cheap, that middle ground is looking pretty appealing.
