Editor's Take

You know what's kind of wild? Franklin Sports has been around since 1946, and most people probably don't even realize they basically invented the batting glove. Like, that's not nothing. But here's the thing - they're not just some dusty legacy brand coasting on past glory. They've actually managed to stay relevant by jumping into whatever sport is having a moment.

Take pickleball, for instance. While everyone else was still trying to figure out if it was a real sport or just something retirees did at the community center, Franklin was already all-in. They're now the official partner of USA Pickleball, and their X-40 ball is basically everywhere in the sport. That's the kind of move that separates companies who get it from those who don't.

The family-owned angle is interesting too. Third generation now, headquartered in Stoughton, Massachusetts, with about 200-plus employees. They've got partnerships with basically every major league you can think of - MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, NWSL, WNBA. And they're not just slapping logos on generic equipment. They're the Official Batting Glove of Major League Baseball, a partnership that's lasted 40 years. That's the kind of validation money can't really buy.

What's fascinating is how they've positioned themselves. They're not trying to be the premium, high-end brand that only pros use. Instead, they're going for that sweet spot where a kid's first baseball glove and a World Series MVP's batting gloves can come from the same company. It's democratic in a way that feels genuine rather than calculated.

Their product range is massive - over 10,000 items across multiple sports categories. Baseball and softball gear, obviously. But also street hockey equipment, indoor games, soccer goals, volleyball nets, and an increasingly serious pickleball line. They've even partnered with Kerri Walsh Jennings, the three-time Olympic volleyball champion, to develop their Pro Volleyball Federation ball.

The Memphis distribution center and Asia office show they're thinking globally, but the Massachusetts headquarters keeps them grounded. And honestly? In an era where everything feels like it's made by some faceless corporation, there's something refreshing about a sporting goods company that's still run by the Franklin family.

So yeah, if you're looking for sports equipment that won't break the bank but also won't fall apart after two uses, Franklin's probably worth a look. They've been doing this long enough to know what works.
