What’s your preparty ritual for instantly glowy skin? | | Do you ever do a sauna before going out? | | Yes, with red light. I really like the practice of sitting in the sauna and just taking some time to chill out.
Favorite GWYN look for entertaining at home? | | I love our sweaterdresses—some have spaghetti straps, they’re fitted and then flare out. A dress is the easiest thing when you’re hosting. | | Favorite way to make a holiday tablescape feel festive? | | I like to have little candle holders and flower vases on hand. A tablecloth helps. I have one from a John Derian x Summerill & Bishop collab that’s subtly festive without being literal. | | What’s your trick for getting guests to leave at the end of the night? | | I just say, “Okay, guys, it’s bedtime.” I have a pillow that says “Please leave by 9,” so my friends watch the clock. People are like, “Wait, it’s 8:55. Finish the story quickly because she’s going to kick us out. | | Favorite hostess gift to give? | | Olive oil from our little family farm in Italy. I also like a Flamingo Estate candle—tomato or Green Goddess. Something people will actually use. We don’t sell our olive oil, but Flamingo Estate’s is great. | | Go-to outfit when you’re heading to someone else’s party? | | I like to stay warm, so I layer. We have a silk shirt—Eldridge—it’s white with a long black tie. It works with a skirt or under a blazer. It’s the kind of piece you can build a whole look around. | | How do you reset after a big night or indulgent holiday stretch? | | I’m not a huge partier, but I like to start the new year with a hike. If the holidays have been indulgent, I’ll do dry January. | | Go-to nonalcoholic drink? | | Sparkling water with ice and a big squeeze of lemon. | | Do you make New Year’s resolutions? | | Not usually. But this year, I’m thinking about how to work in a way that feels less overwhelming. I want to re-architect how I structure things. | | What is something you learned about yourself this year? | | That I am prone to anxiety, which I never had until this year. This has not been that fun of a lesson to learn. It sort of depends on the day. Last night, it felt very heightened. Sometimes it’s inexplicable. And then sometimes I feel totally in my body and zen. So just another way hormones are ruining my life. | | Any tricks to help combat that? | | I try to meditate in bed. That helps me. And I do body scans. | | Favorite scent to burn this time of year? | | Heretic makes beautiful holiday candles and room sprays. | | Coming out of the holidays, what’s something you’ve learned about managing tricky family dynamics that you will bring in to the New Year? | | I mean, I think all families have dynamics that are complicated at one point or another. The holidays can obviously exacerbate that. There’s this sort of pressure to really feel happy. I think for me, I just try to avoid my old triggers as much as possible. And I try to talk to myself—like if something happens that makes me feel frustrated or annoyed, I literally just will talk to myself through it and just be like, Gwyneth, just breathe. It’s not a big deal. That’s sort of my best trick.
