Editor's Take
Great Jones isn't just another cookware company-it's basically what happens when millennials decide to fix everything wrong with kitchen gear. And honestly? They kind of nailed it.
Started in 2018 by Sierra Tishgart and Maddy Moelis, two friends who got fed up with the same old cookware options, Great Jones set out to create something different. The name Great Jones is an homage to Judith Jones, a cookbook author and editor who championed the work of Julia Child, Edna Lewis, and James Beard, plus it's a nod to New York City where they're based.
What makes them stand out? First, the colors. We're talking vibrant jewel tones that actually look good sitting on your stove instead of hidden away in cabinets. Their Dutch ovens come in shades like "Blueberry" and "Pepper"-names that somehow make cooking feel more fun. But it's not just about looks. They designed their collection with the support of some of the top leaders in food in America, including Momofuku's David Chang and Sqirl's Jessica Koslow. They studied, custom-built, and stress-tested the curves and slopes of their cookware (so food doesn't get trapped), the grips of their handles (ergonomics!), and the distribution of heat (even, steady).
The pricing hits that sweet spot too. They bundled their entire Family Style pot and pan set and made it available for $395-almost half of what you'd pay for high-end heritage brands like All-Clad and Le Creuset. That's accessible luxury without the luxury price tag.
As founder Sierra Tishgart told Fast Company, "If it's not happening on Instagram, it doesn't exist in our universe. [Instagram] hasn't changed how we do business - it's how we do business." And that social-first approach really shows. Their Instagram feed is this perfect mix of food porn, lifestyle shots, and actual cooking inspiration that makes you want to, well, cook more.
The company got acquired by Meyer Corporation in 2023, which should help with distribution and manufacturing while keeping that startup energy. In 2023, The Meyer Corporation, one of the largest cookware companies in the world, acquired Great Jones, a startup originally founded in 2018 by Sierra Tishgart. Meyer currently operates the business.
Sure, they've had some growing pains and workplace controversies along the way, but the cookware itself has earned solid reviews from actual home cooks and food publications. It's the kind of gear that makes you excited about making dinner instead of dreading it.
