Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Half Price Drapes-they're basically the anti-establishment of the window treatment world, and honestly, it's kind of brilliant. They weave their own fabric, create their own embroidery patterns, and manufacture their own curtains & drapes in a 15,000 sq. ft. workshop, which means they can cut out all the middleman markup that usually makes decent drapes cost a fortune.

What's really interesting is how they've positioned themselves. Over 5 million windows decorated since they started in 2005, and 1000+ Fabric and Colors starting at $15/panel. That's not just competitive pricing-that's disruptive pricing. Most people expect to pay $50-100+ per panel for quality drapes, but HPD has figured out how to deliver luxury-looking window treatments at Target prices.

The company operates differently than most home decor retailers too. They no longer have a showroom, which probably saves them tons on overhead. Instead, they've gone all-in on e-commerce and actually encourage customers to order swatches-the first 5 are free, which is smart because fabric is one of those things you really need to touch and see in person.

But here's where it gets really clever: they're not just selling ready-made stuff. They keep standardized curtains in stock that ship within 48 hours, but most custom curtains ship within 3-4 weeks. So you get the speed of mass production when you want something standard, but the customization options when you need something specific.

The business model is fascinating from a manufacturing perspective. They eliminate all mark-ups and provide high-end luxurious customized curtains at unmatched cost, which is why they call themselves Half Price Drapes. It's vertical integration done right-control the entire supply chain, from fabric creation to final product, and pass the savings to customers.

And their customer base reflects this approach. They've built a clientele of over 25,000 satisfied customers ranging from designers in Washington DC to restaurants in the Bay Area to individual homeowners nationwide. That's the kind of diverse customer base you get when you nail both quality and price point.
