Returns

What is the return window?
All Hawaiian flights can be canceled within 24 hours of booking (assuming the booking was made at least seven days in advance of the flight's scheduled departure time) for a full refund to the original form of payment. For cancellations made after that, it depends on the fare you bought. Main Cabin Basic fares are nonrefundable and non-changeable.

Are there any items that are non-returnable?
Unless you cancel in the first 24 hours after your booking, Hawaiian Airlines' flights are nonrefundable. The terms and conditions of the Hawaiian Airlines refund policy actually state that all flights are nonrefundable unless otherwise specified. Main Cabin Basic fares cannot be changed or refunded at all.

How will I receive my refund?
Tickets issued against a credit card: The refund will be made to the account of the person to whom such credit card has been issued. Tickets issued via cash payment: When cash is the acceptable form of payment by Hawaiian, the ticket will be refunded by a check payment or ACH bank transfer to whom delivered such cash payment. Provide prompt refunds, in the original form of payment (cash, check, credit card or airline miles) within 7 business days for credit card purchases, and within 20 days when ticket or ancillary service fee refunds, including checked bag fee refunds, are due.

What if I received a damaged or incorrect item?
If Hawaiian Airlines cancels your flight, you're entitled to a full refund no matter what. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, travelers are entitled to a full refund if the airline calls off your flight, regardless of the reason, and you choose not to travel on another Hawaiian flight.

How do I start a return online?
To avoid long hold times, you can submit a refund request online. To cancel for a full refund, log in to your Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles account and navigate to "Reservations," where you'll see a tab that allows you to cancel and make a Hawaiian Airlines refund request.

Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Hawaiian Airlines-it's kind of the definition of a legacy carrier that actually lives up to its name. Founded way back in 1929 (yeah, that's 95+ years of continuous service), this isn't some Johnny-come-lately trying to cash in on the island vibe. Hawaiian Airlines, Inc. is a commercial U.S. airline headquartered in Honolulu, and a subsidiary of the Alaska Air Group. It is the largest operator of commercial flights to and from the island state of Hawaiʻi, and the tenth largest commercial airline in the United States by passengers carried.

But what really sets them apart? Hawaiian is the oldest American carrier that has never had a fatal accident or a hull loss and consistently ranks as the nation's most punctual airline. That's not just marketing fluff-that's a genuinely impressive safety record that spans nearly a century.

The airline operates from two main hubs: Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on Oʻahu and Kahului Airport on Maui. And they're not just flying between islands (though they do plenty of that-around 150 daily inter-island flights). They've got routes stretching across the Pacific to Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, American Samoa, Tahiti, and of course, multiple U.S. mainland cities. Basically, if you're trying to get to or from Hawaii, Hawaiian Airlines is probably your best bet.

In September 2024, Alaska Air Group completed its acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, which means travelers now get access to an even bigger network. The loyalty program recently merged too-HawaiianMiles became Atmos Rewards, combining benefits across both airlines.

And here's something cool: Hawaiian was the first major U.S. airline to offer free Starlink WiFi on select aircraft. So you can actually stay connected at 35,000 feet without paying through the nose for it. They've also kept some of that old-school airline charm-complimentary meal service on transpacific flights, Hawaiian music in their boarding videos, and flight attendants who genuinely embody that aloha spirit.

The fleet's pretty modern too, with Boeing 717s for inter-island hops and Airbus A330s and new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners for the longer hauls. Each aircraft is named after a native Hawaiian bird or plant, which is a nice touch that shows they're not just using Hawaii as a marketing gimmick.
