So here's the thing about Hermès-it's basically the holy grail of luxury fashion, but not in that flashy, look-at-me way you might expect. Founded back in 1837 as a harness workshop in Paris, this family-owned French house has somehow managed to stay ridiculously exclusive while expanding to over 300 stores worldwide.
What makes Hermès different? Well, they're still obsessed with craftsmanship in an age when everything's mass-produced. Take their famous Birkin and Kelly bags-each one requires 18 to 24 hours of handwork by a single artisan. And get this: you might wait six months to a year just to buy one, assuming you can even get on the list.
But Hermès isn't just about those iconic handbags everyone talks about. They've got this whole universe of luxury goods-silk scarves that cost more than most people's rent, watches that'll make your wrist feel important, and fragrances that smell like expensive dreams. Their ready-to-wear collections are equally stunning, though you'll need to make an appointment at most locations these days.
The brand employs over 19,700 people globally, and they're serious about that whole "artisan" thing. From their leather workshops in France to their US flagship stores, everything feels deliberately crafted rather than churned out. It's luxury retail as performance art, really.
And here's what's kind of wild-despite being nearly 200 years old, Hermès keeps finding ways to stay relevant. They've partnered with Apple for exclusive watch bands, launched beauty lines, and even created home goods that cost more than cars. Yet somehow, it all feels authentically Hermès rather than like they're chasing trends.
