The Illinois Office of Tourism actually puts serious effort into promoting the whole state-the wineries, the state parks, the festivals, the Illinois Made program that highlights local craftspeople and products.

And here's what's actually smart: Illinois has over 1,200 public electric vehicle charging stations throughout the state, so they're making it stupid easy to road trip here sustainably. The Great River Road runs the entire western border. Route 66 cuts right through. You could spend weeks just driving scenic byways.

The tourism office runs this whole "Middle of Everything" campaign, and honestly? It works. Because Illinois really is in the middle-geographically, culturally, all of it. You want big city energy?
