Editor's Take

You know that feeling when you find underwear that actually fits right? That's basically Jockey's entire business model, and honestly, they've been nailing it since 1876. Yeah, you read that right-this company's been around longer than your great-great-grandmother's china set.

Here's the thing about Jockey that most people don't realize: they literally invented the modern brief. On January 19, 1935, during a blizzard, they sold the world's first briefs at Marshall Field's in Chicago, designed by an 'apparel engineer' with a Y-shaped overlapping fly, dubbing it the Jockey because it offered support like a jockstrap. Over 30,000 pairs were sold within three months. Not bad for what was essentially a revolutionary piece of cotton.

But Jockey's not just living off past glory. They're still family-owned after three generations, headquartered between Chicago and Milwaukee in Kenosha, Wisconsin, employing more than 1,600 associates around the world. JOCKEY is a registered trademark in over 120 countries. That's some serious global underwear domination.

What really sets them apart is their obsession with comfort-and I mean obsession. "We obsess over comfort so you don't have to" isn't just their Instagram tagline; it's genuinely how they operate. In 2011, they even launched underwear using NASA's Outlast Technologies, originally developed to help astronauts stay comfortable in changing temperatures. Space-age underwear? Now that's commitment.

The company's reach is pretty impressive too. Jockey products are sold in major department and specialty stores in more than 145 countries around the world. They offer over 600 styles of underwear, t-shirts, bras, panties and more, with online exclusives and the largest assortment of Jockey underwear styles, sizes, and colors.

And here's something kind of cool: they're not just about making money. Jockey sponsors the Jockey Being Family Foundation, focused on supporting families after adoption, claiming to increase awareness and accessibility to post-adoption services in the United States. It's nice when a company that literally covers your basics also covers some social basics too.
