Artist Spotlight: Pearl Charles

Some artists make music. Pearl Charles makes place.

Born and raised in Hollywood, where the California poppy blooms and the Mojave dust drifts in off the desert; Pearl Charles grew up steeped in the folk traditions of American music. The Carter Family, Smithsonian Folkways, Alan Lomax recordings. But she didn't stop there. She wove in everything Los Angeles had to offer: Disco, Country, Yacht Rock, Funk, the salt air of the Pacific mixing with desert wind.

The result is something entirely her own, a cosmic, sun-drenched sound that sifts through fragments of bygone eras and reimagines them as something new. Retro-fetishism as futurist vision. Her latest album Desert Queen feels like it was made for exactly the kind of gathering we host each May.

There's something poetic about Pearl Charles playing Joshua Tree, an artist shaped by the Mojave, returning to it.

She'll be joining us May 14–17. We're honored to have her!

How It Works:
• 16 hours = Festival Wristband
• 24 hours = Festival Wristband + Meals
• Green Team gets BOTH wristband + meals for just 16 hours
