Introducing Madame Gandhi: Rhythms of Resistance & Flow at JTMF

This fall, the desert welcomes an artist whose work defies genre, convention, and expectation, Kiran "Madame" Gandhi is joining us at Joshua Tree Music Festival, and we couldn’t be more honored.

A percussionist, producer, scholar, and fierce advocate for gender equity, Madame Gandhi (aka Kiran Gandhi) doesn’t just make music,  she moves culture.

Her journey has taken her from touring with M.I.A. to the TED stage, to composing albums infused with the sound of melting glaciers and the heartbeat of a movement.

Her latest work, Let Me Be Water (May 2025), is a sonic immersion in nature’s wisdom and human resilience.

Crafted in collaboration with over 40 women and gender-expansive creatives, it’s a record that flows with purpose, part global anthem, part meditative mantra.

With tracks born from songwriting camps, climate soundscapes, and even boxing training inspired by her partner, Olympian Lesley Sackey, this album is both a celebration and a call to action.

From viral activism to award-winning music videos, Gandhi is a force of nature. Her work has been featured in Gutsy (AppleTV+), Never Have I Ever (Netflix), and on stages with Oprah. NPR calls her “an icon of empowerment,” and Vogue says:

“A millennial with a voice that matters, Gandhi’s onstage persona thrives on bringing her art and activism together. Young and defiant, sassy yet serious, she uses wordplay and wit to empower women.”
